The Declaration of Office was signed by the following: Reeve, George Armstrong; Councillors: Alex Crearar, Roland Geiger, Fred 3. Hab- erer and William Haugh. The Reeve and Councillors gave short addresses. Numerous communications were read .over and the minutes of the Decem- ber 15th meeting were adopted as read, after which the following mot - teas were passed. That the following officials be re- appointed for 1940: Weed Inspector, John IMeB rid e ; Member of Board of Health, Josiah Geiger; Sanitary In- spectors, B. C. Edward. 3. P. Rau. and C. FI Ffile; School Attendance !Officers, W. R. Dougall and E. B. Horner; Caretaker of Hall, !Henry That salaries. to be paid to Town- ship officials for 1940 be fixed as fol- lows': Clerk and Treasurer, for Twp $360.00; for telephone $350.00; for Twp. roads $76.00, payable quarterly Road .Supt. 35c per hr including transportation; Weed Inspector 35c per hr. including transportation; Caretaker of hall $45.00; Selecting of jurors, Reve $2;' Assessor $2, Clerk $5; Board of Health $1 per meeting; Sanitary inspectors, same rates as fixed in 1989, and that a by- law he prepared for passing at next meeting confirming above. Fire broke out about ten o'clock on !Saturday evening in the smoke house of Mr. Joseph Gesell°, and 'before it was noticed the building was aflame. T'ee fire 'brigade; 'and engine were soon on the ecene and soon had it under control. The buliding had been used during the day for sneak -- frig, and ft is thought that the smoul- dering' smoke fire ignited the building . The four young men, namely: Demi- nits Denomme, Ted. Moine of town, Gordon and .Stanley Smith from St. Jos, who enjoyed a motor trip to Florida, leaving the day before Xmas returmId honw on Monday evening, They travelled about four thousand miles, with no car trouble same three fiat tires. The roads were excellent and the boys sure enjoyed a trip they shall never forget.
