COUNTY RATES PAID
Goderich-County rates for 1939
amounting to $219,175 have all been
paid. County Treasurer A. H. Ers-
kine announced on Saturday. The
rates were due December 20th, and
all. the .24 municipalities of Huron
County have mailed their cheques on
time, maintaining their usual stand-
ard of ,prompt payment.

19 year old Gerald Fitzgerald, Exe-
ter, was •sentenced to jail fox twd

charge of breaking and entering the

Fitzgeiald said he stole the money
because he needed clothing, but Wag-,

money at the end of the season to
buy his winter clothing.

W. R. Dougall Councillor --Had no
thought of making speech. have had
8 years sitting on the Couheil board,
my,full share of it. Thought 1940
Council did well, we have good roads
taxes lower, also gave credit to Mr.
H. Steinbach, Road Supt. Believes on
the system of paying as you go., has
no thought of running for councillor.
Reinhold. Miller, Councillor -Has
no ambitions to become councillor,
dices not think it advisable under
present conditions to have too many
changes and new•men elected.
Nelson Stanlake, councillor -Know
,not why he was nominated, but should
he' decide to run, will appreciate the
sUPport of electors.
• :Owen Geiger was offered the plat-
form, -Thought Mr. Armstrong was
agood man but did not agree with
the Co. Equalization assessment, he
thought that $7,000 was too much
for two months work, and the court
costs will run, high, thought good men
in, 'County could do this work, after
discussing with the rumor of doing
away with Co. Council, and the two
year election system, he dwelt for
time on the Alexander Drain scheme.
