ship was the scene of a pretty wedd-
ing on Saturday, November 2,5th,
when their daughter, Emma Joseph
ine, became the ;bride of Mr. Thomas
Stewart Beattie, Varna, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Beattie, rdullett
Township. Rev. J. R. Peters of
Varna performed the ceremony_ The
beide was given away by her father
and wore a pretty gown of white
satin, floor -length, while Miss Betty
Kinney, of Exeter, cousin of the'
groom, was bridesmaid. Mr. Leslie.
Beattie, Hullett, was the best man.
Miss Margaret Beattie played the.
wedding music and also sang "Oh
Promise Me" during the sign ng of

The Dept. of the Secretary of
State for Canada has advised that ar-
rangements have now been concluded
for the .transmission of letters to per-
sons in enemy -occupied territory in
accordance with the re;;ulations: The

and the Postmaster General announce

pointed licensed intermediary for the
forwarding of harmless social messa-
ges to persons in enemy or enemy oc-
cupier' territory. British subjects and
others in'Canada wi hing to communi-
cate with relatives or friends in en-
emy or enemy occupied countries,
should forward such letters to the a-
bove mentioned address, accompanied
by a• remittence of 50c to cover the
expense of transmitting the utter to
a neutral territory; the transieXSSion
from there to the enemy country,
and the transmission of the reply to
the sender in Canada.

R. - Pfaff, Hensall and Alvin E. Mc-

Late Mrs. E. Ronnie
' Mrs. Erastus Rannie 72, died at
her home , here Thursday a:ceenoon
from a heart seizure. She .ad not
been in the best of health for some
time and had returned only recently
from the hospital where ehe under-
went an operation. Her husband
died nine years ago. Surviving are
one- son, Samuel, Hensall; two dau-
ghters, Mrs. Harris, Detroit; Mrs.
Paisley, Toronto; four brothers, Wm
Chapman, Hensall; Chary:,, Palmer-
ston; John Hamilton; Raiph, Cali-
fornia; one sister, Mrs. D. A. Can-
telon, Hensall. The funeral was held
on ,Satu'rday afternoon f. an the res-
idence to Hensall Union Cemetery
Receives Call
A congregational meeting was field
in Cannel Presbyterian Church for
the pui:;iose of calling a minister,
Rev. D. C. Hill of Exeter. interim
Moderator, presided over the meet-
ing and J. W. Bonthron acted as
chairman. Various items of business
were discussed and a vote taken call-
ing a minister, which resulted in a
unanimous call being extended to
Rev. Win. Weir, B.A., of Goderich,
formerly of Portage LaPrairie.

"Bonnie" Foster, of Hensall, has
taken a position at the Commercial
Hotel in Blyth, and started his duties
He is known to many in this vicinity
through his ability as a hockey and
