Drilling operations at the H. Tre-
wantha Farm, north-east of Clinton,
which have been carried on this win-
ter, 24 hours a day with the excep-
tion of the odcl hold-up when the drill
was lost and "fishing" operations
had to he carried on, is at the pres-
ent proceeding •at the 'rate of around
20 feet a day. The drillers had ob-
tained a depth of some 1850 fet, and
a: -e approaching what is known as the
Clinton formation, of depth (this
of course, has no connection with the
town) , but is merely a name given to
this certain depth.

Late Mrs. John Pollock
There passed away at the hone of
her son-in-law, Mr. George Holman of
Goderich, on April 10th, Airs. .Tohn
Pollock, one of the oldest and most
highly respected residents u: Bay-
field. Mrs. I'ollock's maiden name was
Mary Jane Castle. She was the only
daughter of Geo. Castle, once reeve
of Stanley Twp, and was horn on the
Castle homestead on the Sauble Line
in April 1856. In 1883 she e -e; mar-
ried to the late John Pollo .at one
time reeve of Bayfield. Mrs. Pollock
was one of the oldest members of

OBITUARY
PASSES AT EXETER
William Leavitt, 86, one of Exe-
ter's best known • citizens died at his
home, Thursday. Born in Granton he
went to Exeter 41 years ago where
he opened up Leavil1's fair. in 1914
he became a pioneer among motion
picture exhibitors in Western Ontar-
io, opening at the same time the large
Dome Skating Ring which stood un-
til a few yer . •s ago. He has been con-
nected with the picture industry ev-
er since and opened the present sound
picture theatre in 1931. Outside of
Eyeter he played his part in the de-
velopment of Grand Bend, conduct-
ing n Perk hearing his name until a-
bout 1920 T religion he was an An-
