WOMEN SAIL SHIM'S
Nearly 9,000 women sailors now
work Soviet Russian ships, according
to recent figures published. In addit-
ion, 21,974 women work on boats on
the Volga and other rivers, including
engineers, mechanics and several ski-
ppers. A pioneer among Soviet sea -
women is 29 -year-old Anna Shchetin-
ina, the first to achieve the rank ;of
captain in a seagoing ship.
