Goderich—A spring assize court
jury on Wednesday last brought in a
verdict for $7,000 and costs in favor
of Harold Stark, Fergus baker, who,
suffered a broken heck in a motor
accident with a car driven by Russel
Flyby, Fergus accountant, on Nov-
ember 19, 1937. The accident hap-
pened on Wellington Co. Highway
No. 60, between Fergus and Elora on
a curve. The jury found both prin-
cipals to blame and fixed total dam-
ages at $10,000, apportioning 70 P.C.
to IPlyby and p.e. to Stark. In a
're n verdict the jury held that
‘sas driving too fast at the
time of the accident, but that Flyby
was partly on the wrong side of the

FIRE AT ARKONA
The last factory in the East Lamb -
ton Village of 500 persons, Arkona,
was destroyed late on Monday, as
flames roared •through the two-storey
79 -year-old Arkona Knitting Mills.
The loss, pa -telly covered by in-
surance, was estimated at $25,000.
The loss includes budding, stock and
machinery. The fire broke out at 5.40
10 minutes after the plant had been
closed for the day. Two hours later,
the building, of frame consteuction,
had •been turned into a pile of smol-
deVag debris. Arkona firemen were
joined by members of the Forest bri-
'rade in. the efforts to control the
blaze.

OBITUARY
Late Mrs. Roy Merner
This week we are called upon to
cronicle the sad death of one of
our middle aged citizens in the per-
son: of • Mrs. Roy Merner, of the 14th
COnCession, Hay Township, and who
was before her marriage in 1911 Miss
Lydia Decher, a daughter of the
well:known family of late Mr. and
Mrs. John Decker, Sr., of Zurich.
S ome time last October Mrs. Monier
did: not feel so .well and after con-
sulting Rica], physicians she was ad-
vised to consult a specialist at Lon-
d on twho had x-ray photos taken of
her condition, and unfortunately the
dreaded :Carcinoma had become ao
estOlished that nothing could be
doae, and since that time she gradu-
ally become weaker until on Monday
when death took its toll and ended
tie few months of terrible suffering.

joval and cheerful characteristics of

gteatly missed by her many friends
