NEW LEADER NOMINATED
Or.illle—Col. George A. Drew, the
recently appointed now leader of tee
Provincial Conservative Party, • de-
claring he was the "democratic choice'
of Simcoe East !Conservatives was
nominated at a convention here as
the Conservative party's candidate in
a provincial by-election in the con-
stituency Feb. 27. In accepting the
nomination, the Ontario party leader
said there is no "magic way" of re-
lieving Canadians of existing heavy
taxietion burdens but "there is a way
of re -applying taxation whereby pec•
pre will desire to own propseety =gain"
Revision of taxation was the : --st duty
of governments today.
CONTRACTS PNEUMONIA
Although recovering from the
head injuries he received in a car
crash t-.10 weeks ago on. No. 4 high-
way north of Arva, Andrew Musser,
74 -year-old Dashwood man, is in a
rather unfortunate condition in the
St. Joseph's Hospital, London. with
an attack of pneumonia. Until a few
days ago, when complications set in
Mr. Musser's condition developed, it
—es t' -en '-t all fear. Dasa wood men
injured in the accident were well on
the road to recovery. Hubert Restem-
eyer t:Tho was also severely hurt., is
reported as improving stady. The
other t 70, Melvin Restemeyer and
Edwin Miller, who were Ice seriously
injured, left the hospital a week ago.
CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Samuel Bisset, of Saltford
Heights, -Goderich, died in the God -
i erich Hospltel on Feb. 15 in her 85t11
year. She fell at her house while en
joying the Christmas festivities with
her family, .suffering a fractured hip
and wrist and since that time has be-
en cen.fined to the hospital. Formerly
Miss Eliza Young she was born in
Colborne Twp. After her marriage to
Samuel Bisset, she went to reside on
her husband's farm near Benmiller,
later removing to Saltford Heights.
Her husband predeceased 13 years.
A Presbyterian, Mrs. Bisset was a
very aotive member of Knox church,
and took an active part in the Wo -
mens" societies. Surviving are five
sons and two daughters: Gordon:`
James, Peter and Robert, of Saltford
Heights, and William, pogtreaster at
Goderieh; Miss Annie Bisset and Mrs
R. J. Walters, of Saltford. Also three
brothers and four sisters.
OBITUARY
Late Frederick Gossman
Frederick Gossman, aged 58,
resident of Port Huron for 42 years
died on February 2nd at his home af-
ter a long illness. He was born in
Dashwood and is survived by his
widow and two sons, and three caau-
ghters, all of Port Huron; eight bro-
thers, Jacob, Joseph, Charles F., Val-
entine and George, all of Port Huron
Wm. Gossman, Dashwood; John, Lon
don and Garnet, Detroit; five sisters
Mrs. C .as. Rinker, Dashwood; firs.
Dan, Ilar tici b and Mrs. Wm. Sander-
cott, .bath of London; Mrs. W. Hill -
ger, Pt, Huron and Mrs. Wm. West-
lake, Wyoming. The funeral was held
Sunday last in Port Huron when his
eight brothers were pallbearers.
MT. Frank Corriveau has leased his
farm just north of Drysdale to his
son, Mr. Franklin 'Corriveau, for a
teem of years. Mr. Corriveau will
continue to live on the farm but will
enjoy a well earned rest.

Mrs. Harry Wilson, formerly iMss
Beryl Drummond of Toronto, and
friend, were recnt visitors fit ,own.
Harvey Hudson of Ilderton, was a
visitor with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Colin Hudson.
Miss Emma Johnston left Tuesday
last for a holiday in Florida.
Mrs. Stewart Rosser and Sarah Tre-
ahne of Denfield visited with the for-
mer's brother-inaw and sister, Mr.

community auction sales in the shed
at Hensall. The firfist being held ion
Feb. 22. Ile has been engee•e d in the
poultry business and will continue it
as well as holding these sales.

turned to her home here.

Dies at Ithaca, N. Y.
Harry J. Van Valkenburg, 58, city
police commissioner and president of
the Ithaca Engraving Company, of
Ithaca, N. Y., died last week. Van
Valkenburg, a.native of Hensall, Ont
is survived by Iris widow and a daugh-
ter.
James Dick Passes
James Dick, former district farmer,
died on Sunday at his home He was
in his 69th year. ) Mr. Dick wasm,mr-
ried 48 years ago to Elizabeth Essy.
