LOCAL MARKETS • (Corrected every Wednesday) • 24 25 40 2.00-2.80 1 Beautiful springlike weather is visiting these parts this 'Week, nice bright and sunny days, although not warm enough to do much thawing. The nights are much colder than thel day time, and it really looks as if the welcome spring season is not many 'weeks off. However storms come up very rapidly and .; can do plenty of Kovac in a short time, and we are ,still five weeks away from the middle of March when the spring season is actually ushered in. • • SPORT NEWS The next game on the Zurich rink will be next Tues. eve.,' 14th when the fast boys from Exeter will be here according to schedule. This should prove -to be a good .game as Exeter has a fast team. Last Friday evening at Exeter the home team defeated the Crediton boys by the score of 5-2. It was a splendid game. Hensall Beats Zurich Last Friday evening the Zurich loc- als were visited by the Hensall team and the locals were defeated by the score of 7-2 in a Cyclone League' fixt-re. Throughout the game the visitors seemed to have the better 'of play as ‘,./.1e wil show. Produce Prices At this time of year there usually is a few changes in farm produce, as usually the eggs are the lowest along about now, and this week we have the rather discouraging news that the hen fruit is about at its lowest from 12 to 16c a dozen and it takes quite a nice basket of these fresh "good eating", to raise enough money to pay for a filling up of gasoline ler the family car. Cold storage plants seem to be an advantage and then a- gain a disadvantage, as wehen these big concerns let their. stuff on the market, prices usually flop. Just at present we think producers should be getting more for their bu'iter thar they are, the price seems very low for midwinter, but the cold storage has over a million pounds on hand and don"t know where to go with it, andi last year about one and a half mill- ion pounds were imported from other countries, and this should seem un- necessary for a country like Canada, so our butter markets still are flood- ed with a surplus. Too much butter is made at present according to the amount of cheese, which commands a good demand ot present The potato market is looking better, as they are paying here for a 90 -lb, bag 85c, al- most a cent a bag and prospects are they will get higher. Millers through: out the country are hit hard with no demand for Motu., as seemingly the export markets are filled up. llogs and live stock remainfairly well up in.price and the farmer who is alive stock raiser is pretty well all set as I grain prices remain quite low. • • • • .4 MANY ARE' FINED ConVicted of failure to obtain rad- io licenses, 1,410 persons were fined during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Transport Minis- ter &Lowe told a questioner in the Cormnons. Private radio receiving licenses issued in Canada for the fiscal year ended March 1938 were 1,1,04,207. BATTLES FLAMES TO SAVE • HOME OblVthe good work done by Miss Letitia Dreany, Dungannon, saved her home from being a prey to flame es When the stove pipes took fire and threatened to burn the wooden ceil- ing in two rooms. She battled the fire alone and succeeded in. overcom- ing it. The ceilng was badly black- ened and the house was filled with smoke. She lives alone, is more than 70 years of age. Her frame house which is among the oldest buildings in Dungannon, stands on the main intersection. 40-+ WE ARE LUCKY, TOO I3y special request by one of our readers we are publishing the follow- ing clipping which appeared in one of our daily papers. -Ed.
