Thursday of last week was ground
hog, or bear clay and if this has any
thing to do with an early spring why
this year we should have on ; s there
was no sun till late in the afternoon
when it peeped through a few times
for a short time. Just whether
this t-,'aditional adage has any bear-
ag : ,n the coming in of Spring weath-
er re :mains to be seen. Anyway, we
think there will be mostly wintry
weather from now till the end of the
next six weeks.
22 INCHES OF SNOW
People who believe the prevent win-
ter is more severe than that of' a
year ago are not entirely right, • ac-
cording to weather summaries for
January just issued by the London,
Weather Bureau. There was more
snow in the month just closed than
during Jan. of last year but a year
ago it was colder. 22 inches of snow
this year with 18 inches a year ago.
The average maximum temperature
for Jan. 1939 was 30.2 as compared
to 27 last year, and the average min`
imurn last year 11.7 as compared to
15;4 this Jan. There was one day
over 50 this year and three days a='
bove 45, as compared with only .,
days at 40 a year ago. Both records
show four days .below zero.
