Goderich—Edward Mabey, vagrant
was given a break before Xmas. when
police granted his request to be tak-
en .to jail so he could get in on the
jailer's Christmas dinner. He was giv-
en another break ;by Magis. Makins on
Thursday, when his worship imposed
a .12 -play sentence, and dated it back
Mabey walked out a free man. Melvin
Harlton, Ailsa Craig youth, pleaded
guilty to the theft of a bicycle. He
was given an alternative of $11 re-
stitution and suspended sentence, or
two months in jail. Alfred Pentland,
Windsor, charged with stealing shot-
guns, rifles and ammunition from the
Bonthron & Drysdale hardware store
Hensall,.' Was remanded a week.,- .Str-
i att£vril—Earl Mero, Goderich, ' Was
sentenced tb,`serve 30 days in jail
when he pleaded guilty to a charge
of drunk driving. On another charge
of leaving the scene of an accident
he said he did not know how to plead'
"because I was so drunk I didn't
know there was an accident until the
next morning.' The latter charge was
dismissed. The charges arose from an
accident inStratford in which the
car driven by Mero was involved in
a collision with two trucks. Godericlx
--earl Mero, Goderich young man
doing a 30 day term for drunk driv-
ing in Stratford, will be brought to
this town soon to face a charge o
car theft. Vero came to grief in the
allegedly stolen car at Str4'Vtfard.
'The monthly meeting of the Zurich
Branch' of the Women's Institute was
held in the Council Chambers on
Monday evening, January Oth. It
opened with the Institute Ode and
Lord's Prayer, after which the True-
mner Orchestra favored us with a sel-
ection. A reading was very ably
rendeared by little Nola Krueger, Ev-
eryone joined in' singing "January
and February." Then Elwood True -
inner and Ralph Krueger sang a bea-
utiful duet accompanied by Shirley
Krueger who also accompanied the
orchestra. The guest speaker for the
evenin was Mr. C. L. Smith, who
spoke. very knowingly, on "Printing
and Paper." His talk was much en-
joyed by all present. .Shirley Krue-
ger and Belva Truemner played a
beautiful duet on the piano and then
Pearl Wurtz favored us with a hum-
orous reading. The program was
closed by the Truemner orchestra
and singing God Save the King.
ANNUAL REPORT
Of the Zurich Branch of the Brit-
ish anti. Foreign Bible Society. At
the recent annual meeting of the
Branch motion pictures were saown
describing the Society's worn of dis-
tributing God's Word throughout the
world. The lelected president is Mr.
John Gascho, the local clergymen
are. 'ex -officio the vice-presidents;
and the secretary-treas., es B. J.
Klopp. The offering was $4.6a3.
Following the meeting the executive
appointed collectors for their district
and they received the following' do-

ion of $2 was received which entitles

thly magazine, "The Bible in The
World." To date we have also re-
ceived four contributions of $1. Such
a contributor has the privilege of giv-
ing, the name of some child friend
which will receive free for a year
