A SCHOOL HOLIDAY
Ofribials of the Ontario Depart-
ment of "Education have announced
that the King's Birthday will' be
observed on Thursday June gth in
Ontario schools, with a 'holiday on
that date. The actual birthday of our
King is. December. 14th but It is us-
ually celebrated in June.
Slot Machines Out
After June 5th slot machines are
"out" in Ontario. There won't be any
technicalities about their legality and.
after that date the police may con-
fiscate then at will, without any
evidence of them being operated as
a gaming device. It appears that at
long last these "iron bandits" are to
meet their doom.
Sure Was Warm
The most unseasonable hot wea-
ther in many a year came to a close.
on Monday evening when after the
big thounderstorms it turned cooler
and to -day Wednesday we had to
put on a fire to make conditions
rather comportable. Last Friday was
about the warmest, really mid -sum-
mer heat, but the growth was good
and now we are shivering a bit again
but the summer may bring us plenty
of warns weather.
Plenty of Hail
Hailstones as large as fifty -cent
pieces fell on the farm of Bruce
Koehler, Irvin Willert and others in
that particular neighborhood and did
plenty of damages. During the storm
last Thursday evening several wind-
ows were broken in the house of Mr
Kohler, limbs were torn off trees,
and the hail stripped many of the
young and tender plants. After the
storm both Mr. Willert and Mr. Koeh-
ler gathered up the hail stones and
each enjoyed a good freezer of ice
cream for theevening; as the hail
made the best of ice for this ,pur-
Very unusual in these parts to
so much hail.
