HAY COUNCIL
The Council of Hay Township met
on Monday May lsti. „ in the Town
Hall, Zurich, for the regular meeting
and as a Court of Revision to con-
sider appeals against the Koehler and
Stephan Drains.

survey on lot 19 Con. '2, 12 acres was
taken off and the survey on lot 2Q
Con. 2 was reduced to 75 acres. •
The appeal of John E. McEwen
was dismissed, while the survey of
Jim MsEwen was raised to 20 acres.
The Mowing appeals against the
Stephan Drain were .clisposed of as
follows: John Soldan's appeal. as too
high, dismissed.. Motion that appeals
as above mentioned be disposed of
as stated, ,and Clerk be authorized to
make necessary ainendments to the
two Drains, and Court be closed sub-
jeet ta appeals to the County Judge.
The Council then resumed the re-
gular sitting. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and ad-
opted, after disposing of the comm-
unications the following resolutiona
were passed: •
Motion, that tenders for supplying
h.elp, power, drive belt, gas and oil
for crushing gravel for Township for
1944, and also for hauling gravel on
Twp. roads, to be in the hands of the
Clerk by Monday, May 15th at. 8
p.m., and same advertised.
That by-law providing for constru-
ction and borrowing money to pay
the cost of the work on the West
Branch of the.Black Creek Drain be
provisionally .passed, and that *By-law.:

be again appointed as auditors for
Hay Township for 1944 providing
that extra assistance be given to the

renewed for the year 1944-45. Also
the Public Liability and Property
damage with the Economical Mutual:

That the new 'law requiring the
signatures of two Township Officials
on every cheque- and legal document
become effective at once for Hay
Twp. All necessary forms to be filled
out at once.
That- the tax collector for Hay be
given until .Tune 5th• 1944 to hand
in his roll.
That the Koehler Drain by-law No.
11, 1944, be accepted as read a third
time and finally passed in open Co-
uncil. Changes as passed by the 'Crt.
of Revision to be made in the By-law
That the Stephan Drain by-law No
15, 1944 be accepted as read a 3rd
time and finally passed in open Co-

Late Simon Sararas
The late Simon .Sararas passed a.
way on May, 4th, at his home in
Cromarty, a few miles east of Hen
sail in his 68th year. He suffered a
stroke week phevious. Born at
Zurich, where he farmed just south
of town, then moved to Hensall, for
a time before moving to Cromarty
25 years ago. He was a member of
Chiselhurst United Church. He ie
survived by his widow, the former
Elizabeth Bender, of Zurich, two
sons, Pte. Earl in Italy; xcess,
home; five daughters Mrs. A. Hub.
bert, Mrs. Jack Reeds, Mrs. R. Gros
se, all of Toronto • Mrs. Roy McDon
ald,. Staffa, Mrs. Win. Caldwell, Kip.
pen; a brother Noah Sararas of Kit
man, Zurich. The funeral was held
from Chiselhurst United Church on
Sunday at 2.30 p.m. Burial follow
ed the Bronson Line Cemetery,.
