work they performed in saving the,
buildings and stock adjacent to 'the
mill. Also all. those people of the
community who in any way gave of
their assistance.
OBITUARY
Former Minister Passes
The Rev. Peter Ropp, '79 retired
Mennonite minister and bishop and
a resident of the Imlay City comm-
unity for the past 2t7 years, died in
his home following ten days' illness
of a heart ailment. Mr. Ropp was
born Nov. 23, 1864, in Perth coun-
ty, Ontario , and was married to
Katharine Gascho in 1885. He came
to 1Vlichi.gan 55 years ago, and was
ordained as a minister of the Men-
nonite church in 1897, in Berne,
near Pigeon. He established the loc-
al church 27 years ago. He was al-
so in Ziurich for about a year when
the local Mennonite church was es-
tablished here. Besides his wife he
is survived by six daughters and a
son, Moses Ropp, Imlay 'Cityi two
sisters and two brothers; 32 grand-
children and seven great grandchil-
dren. Funeral services were held in
the Bethany Mennonity church, five
miles southwest of Imlay City, with
Rev. Paul Wittrig, pastor, and Rev.
Sherman Maust of Pigeon, officiating
Burial followed in the churce cemet-
ery. Grandsons were the pall bear-
ers.

Farm Forum
On, Monday evening the Babylon
Line Farm Forum met at the home
of Mr. and 1Vlrs. H. Flaxbard. The
subject of the .discussion was "The
Rural Youth Problem" following the
discussion period a social- hour was
enjoyed. The review meeting on
Rural Living will be held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Erb.
Mr. Roy McBride had charge of
the Blake Farm Forum at the home
of. Mr. James McBride on noonday
evening. The attendance was the
same as last week. On Feb. 121st the
Forum will meet at the home of Mr.
Clarence Parke.
On Monday evening Feb. 14th the
Unique Farm Forum met at the home
of Mr. and Mrd. Delbert Geiger with
a record attendance .of 47 raembers.
Mr. Bruce Klopp was the very able
speaker on the topic "The rural
youth problem."' After group dis-
cussions the answers to the questions
were discussed, among all present.
Asa whole it was agreed that the
rural youth has various advantages
over urban youth. The :radio Forum
the discussions revealed, has helped
the community as a whole, as well as
individual members of the Forum.
Next week the meeting will be held
at the home of Mr. and :Airs, Blake
Horner. At that time they :will hold
a debate on 'Education versus Ex -

in Toronto last week.
The last Red Cross meeting of the
Bronson lime was held at the berme
of 1VLrs. Rassel Heard. The next
meeting is to be held at the home of
Mrs. Sam Hotelier.
Late John Akin McDonald
There passed away at his home in
Stanley Township on Monday, Feb-
ruary 14th in his 80th year, John
Akin McDonald, an aged and well
known resident of the community in
which he- resided. He, was unmar-
ried, having lived a single life, The
funeral will take place from ars late
home, Stanley, on Thdrsday, Febru-
ary 17th, at two o'clock at the home
with a public service in the Bayfield
United church, and interment follow-
ing in Bayfield Cemetery.

The Bronson Line unit of the Red'
Gross' held a very successful dance in
the town'hall in honor of the new
'warden of Huron, Mr. Fred Watson
reeve of Stanley. The door receipts
amounted to about $41. 'Spfendid
music was provided by the Bayfield
Valley Five orchestra, which was
enjoyed by all. A bountiful lunch
was served after which a short pro-
gram followed. The warden, very ab-
ly macre a speech from. 'the platform
followed by Mr. Benson Tucrey, the
ex -warden, and by a former warden
Mr, A.E. Erwin. Other speeches
were given by representatives of the

The Zurich Farm Forum of S. S.
No. 7 Hay held their regular meeting
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
T_Iaberer in Masquerade costume. A-
mong those present were characters

played their part well, and some
young ladies who no doubt put a
heart or two aflutter and made the
dear old men who were present feel
that `"Che World is Going to tl>;e
Dogs.". A number of diplomats who
although somewhat stiff and formal,
seemed on friendly terms. Amon;'
those who won the prize?s'. was a
tall coloured Iady from the 'Sunny
South seemingly associating with the.
upper class, the color of her skin be-
ing a deep black, and she• wore a
fur coat and a "Merry Widow Hat."
Also agent, judging by the color of
his mustache, had not yet seen fifty
winters, but -as a result of much id-
leness, has been putting on :much
weight lately, which made him look
more like "Fat and Forty."„ After
the meeting was called to rder we
