YOU CAN HEAT YOUR HOUSE
WITH SUNLIGHT
One way to beat the coal oil short-
age is to let 01' Sol do the heating.
Dr. Robert D. Potter, science editor,
writing in The American Weekly with
this Sunday's (Feb. 13) issue of The
Detroit Sunday Times, describes a
new house which sunlight helps to
heat, and how old houses can easily
make use of the same principle. Get

THE HURON & E.RIE MORTGAGE
CORPORATION, THE CANADA
TRUST COMPANY
1943 FINANCIAL REPORT
To conserve time the following is
in concise form a review of The :Hur-
on & Erie's 80th annual financial st-
atement for' 1943.
Assets advanced from 342,355,000
to $43,996,000.
Net profits of $3112,475 were $19-,
920 higher than for 1942; and the
balance carried forward as undivided
profits was $235,000 — somewhat
higher than ayear ago. .
Our holdings of Dominion and
Provincial bonds, together with cash
held, totalled $10,712,000. These as-
sets alone were equal to 88.2% of
savings deposits—the highest point of
LIQUbDITY in many years.
Savings Deposits increased from
$10,061,000 to $12,340,000—• -pan all-
tiine high mark.
Canadian Pgbsxat.uree, how little
change following two Victory Loans,
last year's figure being $24,157,000,
as against $24,528,000.
Investments in mortgage ;loans
were reduced from $29,500,000 to
$26,800,000 attributable largely to
substantial Western repayments.
Choice mortgages, incidentally; are
becoming .diffi.cult to obtain, and as
financial institutiens are not only ex-
pected but also have a sincere desire
to aid the war thro;Xigh the purchase
of Victory Bonds itr follows that the
spread between rates of interest re-
ceived on funds loaned and those
paid on monies inv sted and deposit-
ed with us has narrowed perceptably.
This situation may further affect the
rates that can be paid upon 'Deben-
tures and likewise upon. Guaranteed
''Trust Certificates issued by The Can-
ada Trust Company; and there ap-
pears to be little prospect of impro-
vement.
The Canada Trust. Company had
a satisfactory year and a copy of the
financial statement for each fnstitut
ion can be obtained front the under-
signed.
