eral months with the former's hus-

Mr, Henry Datars is confined to
his bed for a week or so and is un-
der the doctor's care, but is slowly
improving.
We are pleased to report that Mr.
T. Less Williams who is taking treat-
ment at Victoria Hospital, London, is`
recovering nicely.
Pte. Ross Uttley of London, en-
joyed the week -end at the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb. Ut-
tley.
Pte. George Grenier has returned
to Army duties at St. John, . N. B.,
last Thursday after enjoying a visit
at the home of his parents; Mr and,
Mrs Wni. Grenier and. other' relati-
ves and friends.

Old Jack Frost, accompanied by
Bing Winter sure made their appear-
ance over the week -end, as several
inches of snow fell, and with the zero'
and near zero weather prevailing, it
sure is winter in the fullest extent.
Again the weather prophets have gone
haywire in their 'predictions that we
would not get any winter till after
the New Year.
CEILING PRICE FOR FOWL
Ottawa - The Prices Board, in
order effective, has brought under
ceiling prices live turkeys, geese and
ducks -now approaching the peak of
their market season. The maximum.
wholesale prices per pound, of live
birds is: turkeys 31 cents in Ontario,
for old tom turkeys four cents Less.
For live geese 21 cents in Ontario,
and for ducks two cents a pound

BUTTER MAY BE REDUCED
Ottawa - The Prices Board, faced
with a cut of almost seven p.c. in No-
vember butter production as compar-
ed with last year, expressed "grave
concern" over the supply situation,
and stated it cannot promise to main-
tain the existing ration through the
winter. Creamery butter output, last
month was only 15, 500,000 pounds,
about 0.8 per cent less than in Nov-
ember 1942 and 37.1 per cent. below
October this year.

coal arrived at Kincardine for John
McLean, Ripley coal dealer, long be:,

in delivering. this precious commodity
to fuel users. Before noon hour had

BIG DOMINION REVENUE
Ottawa -The federal treasury coll-
ected $1,673,660,2212 in customs, ex-
cise and income taxes during the first
eight months of the .fiscal year which
began. last April, this is an increase
of $12764117,324 over the previous
year,
HAS EPIDEMIC
Influenza has swept the County
Home for the Aged at Clinton, it.was
learned at the county buildings at
Goderich. Practically every one of
the hundred inmates has been affect-
ed, the majority be very mild attack,
according to Dr, J. W. Shaw, the
Hoene physician. Richard Jacobs, as-
sistant manager, and his wife were
both stricken, as were other members
of the staff, The situation is much
improved.
WIFE LOSES SUIT
Justice F. H. Barlow on Saturday
last dismissed a $25,000 damage suit
brought against the County of Hur-
on by Mrs. Irene White, widow of
Kearwood W. White, Huron county
jail turnkey, who died as a result of
a hammer attack by a prisoner on
Christmas eve., 1941. The negligence
of White, turnkey, who died after,
the Minitel' attack. upon him by :1
prisoner; led to the dismissal of the
suit. Evidence showed that...White en-
tered a cell block alone, and was
attacked by three prisoners. In dis-
