"Zenith" Cameras
Fitting of war area maps made
from aerial photographs into exact
locations on charts of continents
and islands—hitherto a major
military headache—has been sim-
plified by development of "zenith"
cameras.
Described by army engineers as
"unbelievably accurate," the cam-
eras permit soldiers who know
nothing of astronomy to perform
feats of celestial navigation that
would be a source of pride to the
most exacting mathematician.
DID YOU KNOW THAT?
The cameras, a•ecuxate within 40
to 50 feet, can pin down any portion
' of the earth's surface to precise
locations in terms of latitude and
longitude by coo-rdinating star
data they supply web, the rand.,

CANADIAN PARATROOPERS TRAIN IN ENGLAND
Crack Canadian paratroopers may be in the vanguard in any future Allied attack against Hitler's

Foresters Return
From Scotland
Canada's "Sawdust Fusilier's"
Have Been wonting In
Scottish Forests
Fart of the Canadian Forestry
Corps is coming back to Canada
from Britain. Let none imagine
that the return of these units
means a withdrawal of Canadians
from a fighting front. They are
coming home so that they may
do a better job than they are now
able to do in Scotland, where the
great majority of them have been
stationed almost since the begin-
ning of the war.
The "Sawdust Fusiliers," as
Quentin Reynolds dubbed them,
are all volunteers, all skilled
woodsmen who are at the same
time highly trained soldiers,
Drawn from all parts of the Dom-
inion, the Corps includes four
hundred Queb•c lumberjacks, men
who went overseas to supply the
enormous quantities ('t lumber re-
quired by British. and Allied fight-
ing forces on many battle fronts,

Britain normally obtained a
great deal of its timber from Scan-
dinavia, but with the Nazi inva-
sion this source was cut off. Can -

quantities, but the submarine made
transportation difficult. It was
In those circumstances that the
idea developed of sending, not
lumber, but skilled lumbermen to
work in the Scottish highlands
where timber abounds. For more
than four years they have been
cutting more than a shipload of
lumber a day.
Now Scottish resources are
dwindling as to both quantity and
quality, and we have so far
mastered the submarine as to
make shipping from Canada less
difficult. So the "Sawdust Fus-
iliers" are coming home to con-
tinue their work. They; should
receive a rousing welcome, for
while they have not been in the
firing line itself, they have kept
the firing line supplied.
