MISSING" OVERSEAS'
Mr, and Mrs. Andrew Hicks, of
Centralia, have received word from
Ottawa that their son Flight Lieu-
tenant Donald Hicks is missing. He
was piloting• a bomber on operations
over Germany on Nov. 3rd and faired
to return. Donald has been in the air-
force for about four years receiving
his initial training at ;Sky Harbor
Airport;. Following his graduation he
acted as an instructor at various air-
ports for about a year and a half,
and in January of this year went ov-
erseas.

COUNCIL MINUTES
The regular meeting of the 1/tillage
Council was held on Nov. 2nd with
all members present except A. W.
Kerslake. Minutes of tea previous
meeting were read and adopted.
R. J. Paterson reported re tax sel-
ections as being $2402.47. R. E. Shad
dick reported re the sidewalk in
front of A. Spencer's property need-
ipg repairs. T. Kyle was instructed
to attend to the same, also to secure
two loads of cement gravel from Cud
more,

Farm Forum
On Monday evening Nov. 15, the
Unique Farm Forum held their meet-
ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Bert. Klopp. The subject discussed
was "Prices and Planning," It was
agreed upon in order to put farming
on a sound basis, prices should be
set at a reasonable level. With far-
mers being advised as to the coun-
try's food requirements. After the
discussions a few games were enjoy-
ed by all after which lunch eras sex-
ed. The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Schil be.
CONCERT COMING
A very spicy program is being
arranged, Friday, December 3rd, un-
der the auspices. of the local Red
Cross. The proceeds of which are
to be used to help pay quotas for
knitting and sewing materials. This
program. will consist of our best local
musical talent along with Mr, T.
Harry Hoffman of Dashwood, Gold
medalist baritone and some other at-
tractive.numbers.. Some talent from
the Centralia Air Force expect to be
with us, and a real evening's fun
is to be enjoyed. Come and bring
your friends. More particulars in
next week's issue.
OBITUARY
There passed to his eternal reward
at his home, Zurich, on Friday, Nov-
ember 12th Mr. Jacob Howald, a
aged and highly respected resident of
the community in his 85th year. Hav-
ing been ill only a day, he was of a
hardy, rugged disposition, always
doing hard work at the mason trade
which he learned as a young man.
Many are the buildings and foundat-
ions of barns he helped to put in
their present condition, he was well
qualified in the art of stone mason-
ry, always cry cheerful and of a
mild disposition, and made many fri-
ends in these many years. :torn in
Waterloo county, being of Swiss
parentage, he came to the Zurich
district when 18 years of age and
lived here all but a few years when
he 'had moved to Stratford and Kit -
