AGREE TO SAVE COAL
Goderich — Nine churches of this
town have undertaken to reduce their

per cent, following a meeting at
which all denominations were repre-
sented._ The meeting was presided ov-
er by A. H. Erskine, chairman of
the War Services Committee of the
Lions Club, delegated to act by the
fuel controller. The reduction in coal
consumption is to be brought- about
by a rearrangement of meetings of
societies and. organizations, and by
an overhauling of heating plants

OPENS EXETER FAIR
A unique feature of the opening
of the Exeter last ThursdaY was that
Wm. Oestreicher, president of the
Society, and Warden Benson Tuckey
who introduced the member of the
Legislature, Dr, R. Hobbs Taylor,
who delivered the opening address,
were the three candidates at the last
provincial election. Dr. Taylor said
in part: At long last those in charge
of our affairs have realized the im-
portance of agriculture and the po-
wer of it in war and peace and that,
the roan in the city realizes that his

realized today as never before that
the ills of agriculture can be correct-
ed by allowing the farmer who actu-
ally tills the soil, who really knows
the needs and abuses which require
correction, a free sway in the man-
agement of his affairs. He congratu-
later the management on "the excel-
lency of the Exeter Fair which to
this trying time is contributing to the
moral of the community."
The Exeter band • and the pipe
