The new ceiling price on potatoes,
made effective recently promises
lower potato .prices this winter than
have been enjoyed during the sum-
mer. Prices Will be dose to last ye;
ar's levels, rising each month .after
Christmas to compensate for costs of
holding.. The price in carlots-has'bt-
en established at $1.60 per 75 -Ib. bag
for 1 grade delivered at Montreal.
Points west of Montreal have a hig-
her price, basen on the extra freight
charges shipped from Charlottetown.
HAY COUNCIL
The regular meeting of the Couii'eil
of the Township of Hay was held:in
the Town Hall, 'Zurich, on Tuesday
evening, Sept. 7th, with Tall member's
present. After disposing of the corn-
munications the Council. became , q
ganized to consider appeals _against
the Rosalie Street Drain, Only ons
appeal was received and same - Was
disallowed. hollowing .resolution
passed: That appeal of Louis We ei
against his assessment on Rosalie t..
Drain be disallowed and Court-
closed. F..•,
The ,Council then resumed the re-
gular monthly meeting when the foll-
owing resolutions were passed:

Drain be confirmed and that clerk
advertise for tenders for doing the
work.
• That $5.00 per -month be paid -to
treaaarer, Exeter, as Township of
Hay portion towards expense of issu-
ing Ration Books and that $60.00 be
remitted to treasurer of Exeter for
this purpose covering 12 months for
1943.
That By -Law providing for sub-
mission of the question for a supply
of water for Police Village of Zur-
ich be provisionally adopted; and that
I3y-Law providing date and place of
voting be read three times and finally
passed.

ector be revoked and that taxes for
19.43 in Zurich be paid to the Bank
of ,Iontreal, Zurich and taxes also

Miss Pearl Wurtz and Mr. Ward
Fritz spent several days at Toronto
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Swartzentr-
uber of Blake are very grateful as a
baby girl has arristed in their home.
Miss Gladys Bechler of the Bron-
son line visited a few days in Kit-
chener; also attending the Mennonite
Conference while there.
Mrs. John Brenner and son Clar-
ence and Mrs. Lloyd Hendrick of the
Blue Water Highway motored to Kit-
chener on Sunday, visiting relatives.
Miss Pearl .Gellman and Miss Alice
Beaver have returnees to their pos-
itions in Hensall, after spending a
few weeks at Detroit, Saginaw and
Flint, hjich.
Will the ladies who have knitting
for the Red Cross, kindly hand it in
by September 30th, as the committee
is anxious to ship in the quota as
soon as possible after, that date.
Congratulations to Sgt. Calvin
Thiel who has passed his exams. suc-
cessfully,_ also receiving his wings
and i 'at present .enjoying, s few days
at the, home of his parents, Vlr. -and
Mrs. Fred Thiel.
The local Fall Fairs are drawing
closer as, the days go by. Bayfield
Fair will be held Tuesday and Wed-
nesday of next week and then the
following week, Monday and Tuesday
Sept. 25th and 29th the Zurich Fair
will be held. -
Pte. Dennis Denomme Or. zirigston,
is spending a week or so with his
wife and family here. "Denny" is
always very g1ad•to get a copy of the
Zurich Herald when away, and he ad-
vises us that words cannot _express
how he enjoys its contents.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eckel of
town attended the funeral of the for-
mees dear mother, Mrs. Abram Eck- t
el, at Plattsville on Saturday. Mrs.
Eckel passed away quite suddenly,
as only a few days previous to her
passing, she and Mr. Ecker her hus-
band had been visiting with their son
and family in Zurich and seemed to
be in normal "health and cheerful.
ARRANGE WAR WORK
A meeting of Hensall-Zurich War-
time Citizens Committee was held in
the town hall, Hensel] with Rev. R.
A. Brook opening with devotion. Dr
A. R. Campbell, the president, com-
mended the ladies of the Women's
Institute, and a number of men for
their untiring efforts. He also drew
the attention of those present to the
necessity of getting organized for
the forthcoming Victory Loam cam-
paign "and the athletic meet to be
held in Hensall on Oct. 6, when the
schools of Hensall, Zurich and sur-
rounding districts will participate,
'and. the proffering of assistance to
the Salvation Army for public finan-
cial assistance. The annual financial
statement was -submitted by the Secy.
