Gordon Bie.ger. with the Canadian
Army in British Columbia is visiting
with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Will -
'am Bieber, of the easterly part of
Hay Township.
Mr. and Mrs. Alberti Leibotd, of
Zurich spent Sunday with the latter's
parents, Atr. and Mrs. Thomas. Lep-
pington. Mr. and :\frs. A. Leibold,
accompanied by Mrs. T. Leppington,
and daughter Edith spent Monday in

• Arrived Overseas
Mr. and 'Sirs. Max Turnbull, of
the Blut Water, south of St. Joseph
a few miles, have received a cable -
gram from their son, John Bryce
Turnbull, of the RCAF., saying that
ho had arrived safely overseas. For
the past twenty months he had been
stationed at Winnipeg.
FUEL SHORTAGE
April 14—Parkhill is suffering from
an acute fuel shortage. There wasn't
a stick of wood or a lump of coal for
sale in Parkhill this morning at 'the
'four dealers. Several people had just
Ienough coal to last till morning. So
it is to be hoped warm weather is
just aroti.nd the corner.
NUN FROM ZURICH IS SAFE IN
MANILA
Maryknoll, N. .--.Sister Marie Be-
• nand Purcell, of Cornwall, Ont., and
Sister M. Clotilde Laposte, of 'Zurich
Ont., two Maryknoll sisters station-
ed in the Philippines when the Jap-
seese attacked Pearl Harbor, are
'elf() in Manilla, the sisters' mother-
house here learned through the Can-
! adian legitation at Washington. They
• were' among 53 Maryknoll sisters st-
ationed in the Philippines. The two
now are stationed in their own mis-
eion house in Manila. ---Sister M.
Clotilde Laporte is a daughter of
Mr. John 13. Laporte, of the Blue
Water Highway near Drysdale.
Dr. and Mrs.. P. J. O'Dwyer were
at London last Thursday.
Mr. Fred Rader of Dashwood was
a visijorr with his sister, jMrs. Clara
Decker ` of town, last week.

Clare Masse spent Sunday to 212r. and
Mrs.. eEnry Schilbe, 14th concession.
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin .Dedels and da-
ughter:, and the former's sister, all
of Kitchener were week -end visitors
at he home of Mrs E. Datars, Sr.
•Mrs. • W. F. Finkbeiner and daugh-
ter, aVirss Hazel of Stratford, spent
the week -end at the home of the for-
mer's sister, Mrs. W. H. Hoffman.
Flier Allan Gascho of Centralia
Airy Port accompanied by a boy friend
from the Clinton Radio School, had
a very pleasant visit at the former's
home, Mr. and Mrs.. John E. Gascho
over the week -end.
Mrl; William Baechler and sister,
Gladys of the 'Bronson line, motored
to Baden, the latter remaining for a
few weeks, and has now returned to
her home, accompanied by Miss Edith
Swartzentruber and fziencl.

Public Meeting
A public meeting was held • in the
Zurich town hall Monday night, when
the local chairman, of the Victory
Loan Committee, Mr. Albert C.
Kalbfleisch called a meeting, and a
veryinteresting and encouraging me-
eting was held. A number of speak-
ers, local clergymen and canvassers,
viewed their opinions and a big push
behind the Loan is looked for.
HAD DEDICATION
Sunday Services in the Emmanuel
Evangelical Church. --The Sacraments
of Baptism and the Lord's Supper,
and the Dedication of a New Com-
munion Table were all observed in
the .Emmanuel Evangelical Church on
Sunday morning. Three infants were
baptised; Earla Hay, Gerald Prance,
and Glen Greb. A new communion
Table, the gracious .gift of Mrs. C.
Fritz was presented and accepted
with gratitude by the Congregation.
A specially prepared Dedication rit-
ual made the service impressive. The
Sunday evening Service was given
by the Junior League. Songs, pray-
ers, poems and stories cunsertuted the
urogram.
Local Red Cross
Very Successful Campaign
During the recent campaign for
funds the Zurich and District Branch
of the Canadian. Red Cross Society
raised a total of 81435.40. The
local Branch wishes to thank all those
who have contributed so generously.
And also the canvassers who have
given of their time to cover the
district. The funds -collected are
divided as follows:

Co. of Huron; grant 600.00
$1435.40
A DISTINGUISHED VISITOR
Col. George A. Draw, leader of
the Progressive Conservative party
of Ontario visited these parts of On-
tario .early this week. Monday he
was at Dashwood, Grand Fend, Cred-
iton, Exeter; Hensel], Zurich and
Bayfield, while TJesda,' was at
Walton1' Sea.forth, Clinton and God-
e•rich, 4nd on Tuesday (evening he
addressed a large gathering at Wing -
ham at;'a convention and where nom-
ination of a ,c an di da te for North -
Huron for the expected hv-erection.
Dr. 1 . ;}FI. Taylor, of Dashwood ac-
compan..ed Col. Drew during his tour
in South Huron, and the ,osyact of
the tour was to introduce thought of
post war conditions, which will be
of great value to the farming popu-
lac, arta others as well.
