STANLEY TOWNSHIP
Miss ''Gertrude Smith who has been
taking a course in the cooking school
Of the RCAF, at Guelph left for
Vancouver recently.
The annual meeting of the W. A.
of St. John's church, Varna was held
at the home of Mrs. Jno. Beatty and
Miss Mossop. The meeting was op-
ened by singing Hymn "What a Fri-
end we have in Jesus" folowed by
members prayer in unison. The min-
utes of the last annual meeting and
a summary of the year's activities
was read by the secretary, Mrs. M.
Elliott, Miss E. Mossop treasurer,
gave a very satisfactory financial re-
port. All the pledges had been met
leaving a veru substantial balance on
hand. Besildes packing a bale of
MOW and second hand clothing to be
sent to London for distribution. s
The election of officers for the ensu-
ing year resulted as follows: Hon.
President ;Mrs. Jno. Graham, Presi-
dent Mrs. M. Reid, Vive Pres. Mrs
H. Deihl, Secy., Mrs. M. Elliott, trs.
Miss E. E. (Mossop. Meeting closed
with prayer and benediction by Re-
ctor Rev. J. Graham.
BAYFIELD
The many friends of ,Mrs, J, D,
Stewart will regret to learn is con*
fined to her room suffering a badly
sprained 'back, the result of a ,fall on
the ice.
Miss Stella Robson of Toronto, is
visiting with her sister, Mrs. H. Ar-
nold.
Mr, 0. Kennedy of the ECNVR.
Stratford, was a visitor with friends
here.
IPte. and Mrs. Wilfred Rlopp of
Kitchener were week -end visitors at
her parents' home, 131r and Mrs Jas.
Parkins.
Boxing Day, December 26th has
been proclaimed a public holiday by
Reeve • Shaddick for the Village of
Hensall.
The annual Christmas concert
given by the public school pupils was
held in the town hall, on the evening
of December 22nd. Drills, recitat-
ions, solos and dialogues under the
direction of their teachers, Mr. Ba-
tes and Mrs. Wm. Parker, were en-
joyed by the large gathering. The
musical instructor is Mr. Gill.
Miss Nora Ferguson left tto spend
•the winter in London with Mrs. Wm.
Balkwill.
Mr and Mrs Geo. Little of Little
Inn, have gone to Goderich for the
winter where they will work at the
casino at the Park House.
Mrs. Catharie Brandon is confin-
ed to her bed with illness.
Harry Darrok has returned to his
home from Clinton hospital and is at
present at the home of Mr •Geo.:St-
evenson. Mr. Darrow has been ill for
a considerable time.
Mr and Mrs Ditto have taken up
residence in a cottage on the farm
of Fred Middleton, Goderich Twp.
where he has engaged as farm helper
Many local homes are looking for-
ward to the home coming of their
soldier boys for the Christmas fes-
tivities.
Late Mrs. George Woods
Early Sunday morning last Mrs
Ileo. Woods quietly
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jno.
Howard. Mrs. Woods before her mar-
riage was Lena Geminhardt, daught-
er of the late Mr and Mrs. F Genin-
hardt, one of the pioneer families of
the village. The funeral was held on
Tuesday afternoon, a private service
at the home of Mr. J. Howard and a
public service in the Trinity Angli-
can church, conducted by Rev. John
Graham, rector of the churco.. The
funeral being largely attended. She
i- survived by three daughters, Mrs.
J. Howard, Bayfield; Mrs. (Rev.) H.
Crosby, New York state, and Mrs.
Boyd, Muskoka: two sisters and one
"brother. The family has the symp-
athy of a large circle .of friends.
Mr and ;Mrs. Melvin Moir, Miss
Sal ly Manson and friend spent the
week -end 'with friends at Blenheim.
The annual Sabbath school enter-
tainment of St. Paul's Anglican ch-
urch was held .on the eve. of Dec.
18th.
Shower Held
Complimenting Miss Helen Glenn
of Hensall, bride -elect of •bhe Christ-
mas holiday season, Mrs. J. D. Reid,
London, was hostess at an attractive
arranged miscellaneous shower. ?Miss
Glenn's marriage to Mr. Morley C.Sanders, B.A., takes place Saturday
December 26th, at her former home
in Kippen.
Has Enlisted
Mr. Kenneth Hicks, prominent bus
inessman of Hensall, has enlisted
with RCAF, and reports for duty in
January. Mr and Mrs. Hicks came
to Hensall after their marriage and
have operated the 5c to $1 store for
several years. The town is pleased to
learn that Mrs. Hicks and family will
continue to reside in the town.
Completes Course
AQ1 Norris 1VIcEwan, RCAF,. has
completed his course as radio tech-
nician wireless operator at Montreal
and has been transferred to a West-
ern Province, where he is waiting to
be posted. Norris completed his
course and is the elder son of Mr.
and 'Mrs. Alpine McEwan of Hen-
sall.
Mr. Herman Dayman has purchased
the dwelling of the late James Priest
The annual public school concert
was held on Tuesday afternoon, Dec
22nd and was largely •attended.
Red Cross Euchre Party
A very successful euchre party
was held at the home of Mr and Mrs
W. R. Dougall on Wednesday even-
ing sponsored by the Red Cross unit
of S.S. No. 10, Hay. There were
passed. away at

receipts 'amounted to $114.50. The
ladies first was won by Mrs. Jack
Ingrain and the gent's prize by Mrs.
John R. MacDonald. Lunch was ser-
ved.
Mr and Mrs R. Eckstein and Mrs
(2 Hoffman and :Miss Lily Hoffman of
London were Sunday visitors with Mr
and .Mrs. T. Harry Hoffman.
Mrs Morenz returned on Tuesday,
after spending the past week with
friends in Guelph.
Mr. Philip Fassold was taken ill
very suddenly while in Dr. Taylor's
office last Thursday and was taken to
London Hospital in Hoffman's ambu-
lance. We understand Mr. irassaid
i.. getting along as well as can be ex-
pected.
Miss Zeta Nadiger R N who spent l
a f ew days with her parent- last
week returned to Howell, Mich., on
Friday.

Mr. Addison Tiernan has rented
his hotel to Mr. Service of nCrediton
who will take possession shortly.
The school concert last week was
a pig success, the school being filled
to the doors. Great credit was given
the scholars and teachers on putting
on such a good .concert.
The Christmas entertainment of the
'Evangelical church was held on Sun-
day night. A good crowd attended,
and the program was well rendered.

Hensall Council Minutes
The Statutory meeting of the Vil-
lage Council held at 8 o'clock, the
eve of Dec. 15th in the Council Cha-
mber with all members present, ex-
cept Councillor R J Cameron.
.The minutes of the previous meet-
ing were read and adopted.
R. J. Patterson, tax collector re-
ported as having received •$205.00 in
prepayments; $4261.55 in cash since
last meeting, or a total of $10504.34
off the 1942 Roll. Motion, that we
strike off the business tax of K. Hicks
an account of Transient Traders li-
cense.
Dr. G. Steer, MOH presented his
annual report. Motion that the re-
port of Dr. Steer MOsH be adopted
as read.

Consumers or non -registered boarding houses
having in their possession the equivalent of
more than one pound of butter for each
person in the household, must before January
3, 1943. report their holdings to the nearest
office of this Board. They must forward with
their reports the number of butter coupons
representing their butter holdings. If the quan-
tity of butter in possession of such persons
represents more than the eleven brown
coupons in Ration Book No. 1, which will be
good for butter, they must in their reports
undertake to detach from future ration
books, additional butter coupons equal to the
remainder of the surplus.
Special Notice to Retailers
On and after.' December,' 28, retailers Must establish their right to purchase new supplies
of butter from - their Suppliers by turning over to the supplier currently valid ration
coupons equivalent' to the poundage of butter ordered from the suppliers.

Injuries Were Fatal
Goderich was the scene of another
wartime military Funeral on Dec..7
when Sergt. Elrick attached to No.
3s1' Air Navigation School, Port Alb-
ert, was buried in the soldiers' mem-
orial plot in, Maitland cemetery. He
died in a Windsor hospital ofi injur-
ies received :in a train -auto crash at
that city the day before. He was 2$
years of age.
Lost Flyers from England
Names of the four R.A.F. crew
who :lost their lives when their air-
plane plunged into Lake Huron near
Port Albert airport recently were re-

Airman Has Arm Fractured
