they are in favor of paying the me-
mbers of the Town Council a "rea-
sonable" remuneration for their ser-

ing sought.
COMMENTS ON DEER SHOOTING
Public reaction to last week's ap-
en deer hunting season is on the
whole unfavourable, particularly in
the rural sections, because of alleged
abuses and lack of common sence on
the part of inexperienced hunters.
Farmers in Goderich last Saturday'
said that shotguns and small calibre
rifles should be barred. Far too many
deer have been wounded and left to
die in the bush. Carcasses are being
found every day. Also, far too many
fawn were shot, farmers say, -while
some full-grown deer that were shot
already had theeir hides peppered
with ibuckshot. From the farm of
Marvin McDo-well, near Westfield, it
is reported that a pet doe was shot
by a Toronto hunting party 'before
The local Red Cross are sponsor-
ing a public dance in the town hall
this Friday night. Clayton Steeper
and his orchestra will furnish the
music for the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walper of the
Babylon line celebrated their ;fiftieth
wedding anniversary on Monday last.
A goodly number of relatives and
friends gathered for the occasion and
extended best wishes.
Mr. Godfrey Regier, son of Mr.
and Mrs Fred Regier met with a
'painful accident on Saturday even-
ing when his 'bicycle skidded on the
slippery road and threw him off the
the eyes of Mrs. McDowell, who fed bick. fracturing his arm near the
it daily from her hand. The hunters „,elbow.,
are reported to have driven up the
farm laneway, got out of their car
and approached the deer across a
ten acre field. It -was an easy mark
standing on a high spot across a
creek.-Goderich Signal •Star.

The last meeting of the Zurich
Women's Institute for 1942 will be
held in the hall on Monday night,
December 7th. The program will be
centred around the thought of Chr-
istmas and the Christmas sprit will
be further fostered by the quilting
of a quilt for the Red Cross. We

more profitable and enjoyable.
FORUM MEETS
On Monday evening the Unique
Farm Forum Radio broadcast was in-
tently listened to after which the
members .present were divided into
three groups to answer questions on
the topic. Then they held open dis-
cussions on the shortage of farm help
If the government had frozen the
men on the farm a year or more be-
fore they did, we would have enough
help on our farms at the present
time. We can produce as much in
1943 as we did in 1942, IF we get
help during the seeding and harvest.
As far as the winter months are con
cerned we have sufficient help. The
government would help in one big
way by .supplying help to cut the we-
eds. There should be a ceding price
on farm wages. The town and city
dwellers could do a patriotic duty by
making themselves available as farm
laborers, when needed. Mrs. Dur-
and and Mrs. H Schilbe were in
Charge of recreation.
