Was Presented
William H. Shaw, of the Exeter
H. S. staff, has resigned his position
and left for London to train as an
officer tin the Royal Canadian Navy
Voluntary Reserve. Be fore leaving
Exeter the ;pupils of the High Scho-
ol assembled in the open air and
after refreshments were served, pre-
sented Mr. Shaw with a furnished
leathed toilet case Mr. Shaw is a
graduate of Alberta University.
Car Stolen
Leaving his car on Main Street
for a few minutes the other evening,
while he went up to his office, Dr.
F. J. Bechely returned to find it had
disappeared. Police were notified
and the car discovered 'eah'ly the
next morning a mile south of Clinton
on No. 4 highway.. The car, when
fouund, was part way in •a field, hav-
ing gone though a fence. County
Constable Snell investigted and ar-
rested two ;firmer,

tawa to London where she visited for

ped on the list of having passed thier

The induction of Rev. E. J. Woll-
and B.D., Th.M into the pastoral
charge of Bay -field and Porter's Hill,
took place in St. Andrew's United
church, Bayfield. Rev. Reba Hern,
of Varna, adaaresed the new min-
ister, !basing her talk on `The Adven-
ture of' Faith," and telling of the
glory of being able to serve the Lord
Mr, Atkinson of Brucefield, addres-
sed the congregation, taking for his
subject "We are labourers together
with God."

Rally to Call
City and town residents are ral
lying to the call for extra Gabor i
sugar beet fields. Men of all pro
fessions are rolling up their sleev
and toiling to help save the bee
chop. Answering to the call fron
Hem -all were some 75 men, includ
ing Ministers, Merchants, Teachers
citizens and school boys, who gave o
their time. on Tuesday evening and
Wednesday last to help hoe, thin
ning and trimming on the farm o
Russell Broderick, half mile north
from Hensall, Highway 4. The pre-
sident of the Red Cross us that the
earnings will go to that society.
Red Cross Appeals
While the Hensall Women's Ilnst
itute accepts the responsibility for
organizing the work of making jam
for overseas shipment, it is to be
regarded as a Community Project,
under the sponsorship of the local
Red Cross. A house to house can-
vass will be made shortly. Please be
gener nus with your donations of
fruit or money to aid the project.
This year the need is even greater
than last year.
Mrs. Winston 'Workman of Kip -
pen, fractured her arm when ,he fell
from a ladder while picking 'cher-
ries.
Mrs. Clayton Frayne was elected
president of the Passmore reunion
in. Grand Bend. Mrs, Elizabeth Pass-
more, of Exeter, won the prize for
being the oldest person present.
Mr. and Mrs, Ted Taman and Toni
of Listowel, were visitors with Mrs.
C. Mcllonne]1 on their way to Grand
Bend, where they intend .to vacation
Mises Maud Bolton, bride -elect of
-July, was elle , 'uez:St ed honor' at a 1
picnic at Springbank, when she was
presented with two crystal vases.Miss
Bolton was also honored at a picnic
held at Gibbrons Park by tie girls of
tiro elyib to which she belonged. The.
bride 'elect was presented with a
lovely gift.
W. Chapman Buried
Funeral services were held on Jul
3rd for W'ill'iam Chap nan of Egan-
ondwille a farmer well known Tuck-
ersmith resident. He died in his 74
year. Born in T'uckersrnitlr turd lived
there a;ll !MB I1'P' un�i;i1 his retirement
to Diilniondville two years ago. Sur-
viving' are his widow, the former
Mary Wilson, two daughters, Mrs.
Robt. McGregor of Hensall and Mrs
H. Jackson, a sister, Ma's. A. Lail
well of Beetelield and a brother, T.
Chapman of K�ippen. His death was
the result of a heart condition.

At the request of the Minister of
Finance the Hon. J. L. Ilsley, Mr.
McMurray has been appointed cha-
irman of the National War Finance
Commititee of the County of Huron;
This Committee has the very imp-
ortant task of securing the financial
repuirements of the Govenment in
out war effort through the financial
repuiements of the Government in
onur war work through the sale of
War Savings Stamps and Cetificates
as wei!1 as Victory Bonds.
Mr. McMurray, besides being
Mayor of Clinton, has just complet-
ed a successful Red Cross 'campaign
in his own town. He is chairman of
Clinton's Salvage Committee and its
Treasurer and General Manager of
the Clinton Spring Show. After 28
yeaars' service with the Ilnternation
al Harvester Co. he is quite convey-.
sant with the work of organization.
At present he is ,busily engaged in
organizing various municipalities of
Huron for this very important work.
Headuarters for the Huron County
w amptaign have been opened in Clin
ton.
Mary L. became the !bride of Arthur
James Finlayson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Finlayson, Kippe.n, The
ceremony was performed by Rev. R.
A. Btrook, minister of Htnsall U. C.
The home was lovely in pink and
white. Miss Lola Finlayson, 'cousin of
the groom, played the wedding mus-
ic. Given in nroreiage by her father
the lovely blide was gowned in wht
silk leney, she wore a shoulder tor•
sage of ping carnations The bride
was attended by her sister, Mrs. Hgh
Morena of Dashwood, and Mr. Hugh
Morenz was best man. A buffet lunch
eon was served to 50 guests . For
their wedding trip the bridal couple
motored to Muskoka.. They will re-
side at Blake, where the groornis a•
very popular teacher. Guests were
present .from various places and in-
cluded two grandmothers, Mrs. Sar-
;th Coleman of Seaforth and Mrs.
iVTur Jackson of Bengali.
