Gunner Viencen Smith has re-
turned to Pettawawa to continue in
service after spending a few days at

meet with us each Thursday .after-

An effort is being made to re-es-
tablish the salt ,industry at Seaforth.
A Brandon man has ,opened one of
the former Coleman wells and has
found it in good state of preser-
vation.
In the examinations reports that
came out in the London Free Press
on Saturday, the name of Miss Mae
Smith of Zurich was included having
passed her fourth year in Home Ec-
onomics. On Thursday of this week
the Convocation will take place on
the Western University grounds.

handed out and the various 'degrees
will be .conferred. In addition to
the regular deploma in Home Econ-
omics Mae will also have the degree
of Bachelor of Arty conferred. And
her many friends are congratulating
her on the years of hard work she
has just completed.

AWARD CONTRACTS
Meeting on Wednesday last the
IJuron County Home Conunittee a-
warded
warded the 'contract for erecting a
new pasteurization building .at the
Huron County Hom e to the Huron
Lumber Co., Exeter, the tender price
being .$822.50. The .committee also
authorized installation of three in-
direet lights in the women's dining
room of the 'Home. Tenders will be
asked for supplying coal to the Horne
FEDERATION MEET
On Monday evening, June 1.st, the
Unique Farm Forum .met at the home
of Sam Oestreicher for their mon-
thly meeting, with 30 members pre-
sent. The topic was "The Farmer
Looks at Price Control." After lis-
tening to the radio broadl•,ast 1MT.
Carl Oestreicher gave a very inter-
esting and educational talk on the
subject. After group discussions the
results were 'brought together and
decided upon. In general, the mem-
bers of the Forum feel they are pro-
fiting from the ceiling price. It
was decided that the Zurich Forum
and the Blue Water Forum are to be
guests of the Unique Forum at a
picnic at Turnbull's Grove on Satur-
day, June 20th. The picnic ds to
begin by supper at 6 p.m. sharp.
RED • CROSS NEWS
The Red Cross needs nine million
dollars—but that is not enough. Nine
million )dollars can only do part of
the world-wide work undertaken by
the Canadian Red Cross Society,and
funds :must be constantly and contin-
uously raised. In Ontario alone the
"pickles and dirne.s" campaign of
Ontario school children for Junior
Red Cross has a quota of $35,000.

met in Hensall United church on
Thursday May 28, 1.15. The meet-
ing was presided over by the District
President and District Secretary.
Outstanding reports was the educat-
ional report of Mrs. Paul Doig stres-
sing the need of international tho-
ught and teaching as a war prevent-

Doig and Mrs. K. Hicks in present-
ing the Health report dwelt on de-
plorable lack of physical fitness in
recruits for the armed force, and our
needto stop and ponder on the fut-
ure of our nation, if we can surv-
ive, .:physically. The future will
bring the "(Prevailing side of Med-
icine" not the cure as it is today.
Mrs. F. Oster of Blyth brought
greetings from ,the London District
Convention Area. Mrs. H. McCree
of Sarnia, Ted. W. Inst. member
complimtned all on the excellent
War Work report, one of the best
she has yet seen. South Huron rea-
lizes too well, that first of all we
must win this war at all costs. •Not-
hing else matters at the present
time: Kippen East held the l:anors
for having raised the most money
for war work. ,Seaforth made the
most jam, and Hurondale the most
quiets.
Miss L. Rowe, Dept. Rep. spoke
at length on the price Control Act,
on Medicica 1 Clinics and less exp-
ensive and fuller educational systems
The Navy League were given 500 -
lbs. of good magazines and books
for the Canada Blue Jackets., and
55 lbs. of maple sugar. By October -
1, the branches will present the same
organization with 32 quilts and 350
knitted- articles. The branches are
planning more widespread extension
of Hospitality to the Airmen of our
country.
A course in Home E.conomics,eggs
cheese and milk is planned for July.
Miss G. Laramie and Miss Luker
favoured with :a pleasing duet. The
National Anthem brought a bright
useful meeting to a close.
