ent spending some time amt the home

N.U.R. of Landon, spent the week-
end at ,the home of his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. R. F. Stade.
Odd Jack Frost made its appear-
ance a few nights last week and
we fear it was not too good for the
early blossoms and the early tender
plants like garden beans, etc.
Mrs. Wrn. Schade has returned to
the home of her son Mr. and _Mrs.
Clarence Schade, 14th con., after
spending the winter months with
her daughters at London.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wagner and
daughter ,Marlene, Mr. Jacob Oesch,
also Mrs. McClinchey of Kippen,
motored to Guelph and Kitchener on
Friday last visiting relatives and
friends.
Congratulations are being exten-
ded to Mr. Archie MacKinnon who
was successful in passing all his ex-
aminations for the third term at
the Vetenary College, Guelph.Arithie
has left for Waterloo where he will
be an assistant to Dr. Johnston for
the vacation. season.
The gardens like the field crops
are making a most wonderful growth
and everything is promising for an
abundant crop, and that is just what
a country needs when it's manpower
is being attacked by .the enemy who
wish to destroy us, our civilization,
onur standard of living, and most
of all, our privilege to worship the
God and Creator that we do.

Holstein-Fresian breeders of the

Bruce and Grey are co-operating to
donate a high class purebred Holt-
ein heifer calft to be sold in the
War Effort Calf Auction Sale which
is being held in conjunction with t.hc•.
National Holstein sale at Brampton,
May 27th. Last year $11,986.06 was
rained in this way and sent to Eng

HAD RED CROSS TEA
Wednesday afternoon and evening
of
.lest week Miss Vera Decker gave
a delightful tea in aid of the Red
Gros, Society, .at her apartment on
Main Street, which was profusely
decorated with spring flower:,. Many
friends called during the day and
many expressed their appreciation. of
Miss Decker's effort on behalf of
this worthy cause. $2(. was receiv-
ed, all of which was turned over to
the treasurer of the Red Cross. Miss
Decker received her guests, Mrs.
Dore assisting her, also showing t he
quilt made from permanent wave
pads dyed in attractive colors. Durr
ink• the afternoon Mrs. Katherine
Carr, of Toronto, pound tea. Miss
Doris Hay invited to the tea room
where Mrs. A. J. Hess, Mrs, Roylance
Westcott, Mrs. T. Steinback and Mrs
E. Thiel assisted. In the evening

Miss- Doris Meyers has returned to
Toronto to resume her position in
the bank, after spending aomu time
with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Thos.
Meyers.

Ottawa — Hon. Arthur Cardin,
minister of transport, has tendered
bis: resignation to the ,prime minister
This is as a result of the Governm-
ent policy, to amend the Mobolization
Act in such a way as to remove the
restriction against compulsory serv-
ice overseas.
LATE MRS. FAUST
Word was received here in :Zurich:
by relatives of the passing of a Ter-
mer well-known resident here in
the person of Mrs. Pauline Faust,
(nee Pauline Livingood) who died in
Berwyn, 111., near Chicago) on
Monday, May 18th, she having rea-
ched the age of sr
:some eighties, and
was well known in. Zurich years ago,d'
being a great church work and
interested in doing good while resi-
dents at Zurich. The remains were
laid to rest at Berwyn on Thursday
2ilst. The late Mrs, Faust was the
widow of the late AdaLtr Faust who
predeceased in 1910. Two children
survive, Lorna of Chicago and Roy
of lerwyn; one sun Rev. Wilfred
Faust died a number of years ago.
The family left Zurich over twenty
years ago, living in and, around Chic-
ago and Berwyn, 111.
MADELEINE CHARLEBOIS
Madeleine Charlebois is the charm-
ing young lady behind the pleasant
voice now heard from CBC's Ottawa
studio announcing' the BBC News
and other important network origina-
tions from the Capital, Miss Charle-
bois was born just outside Ottawa;
her parents :are French-Canadian,
and she has taken special courses
modern languages at the Ottawa
University, speaks French, English
and Italian. She studied piano and
voice for five years, but doesn't con-
sider music her "forte", having al-
ways .been a good deal more inter-
estedin the drama. When she was
working as a bilingual stenographer
at the head office of a large insurance
company, she devoted mst of her
spare time to Little Theatre activit-
ies, playing both English and French
leads in the Dominion Drama Festi-
vals, Her first introduction to radio
was her successful audition for an-
nouncer
