The Council of the Township of
Stephen met in the Town Hall, Cre-
diton, on Monday, May 4th at 1p.m.
All members present. The minutes
of the previous meeting were •read
and adopted on motion
The motions: That the Assessm-
ent Roll for the - year 1942 !be ac-
cepted as filed by the Assessor and
that he be paid his salary of $110
and $7. for postage; and that the
Court of Revision to hear and det-
ermine appeals be held in the hall on
,slay 26th at 2 p.m.
The Clerk was instructed to ask
for 'Tenders up to May 26th for the
purchase of the Cooper property in
Crediton which had been obtained
for arrears of taxes.
Following correspondence: — 1.
From. Dept. of Municipal Affairs st-
ating the Province will continue the
payment of one mill subsidy on the
total municipal ratebll assesment for
the current year. 2. From Dept. of
ucation regarding the organization
and administration of Twp. school
areas. 33. From Dept. of Highways
and Oil Controller regarding use of
"Marked Gasoline" coloured purple
in power maintainers.

and Mrs. Hoover and two sons of
near Selkirk were Saturday visitors
inthis district.
A goodly number of our ladiesare
attending the W.M.S. Convention of
the Evangelical church, at Dashwood
on Wednesday and Thursday.
Rev.'i Paul Erb, of Wallace was
in 'tov a with relatives on Tuesday.
He wa on hisway to the Dashwood
'W.M.S. convention.

Mr. Fred Hess, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. F. Hess,. who has just com-
pleted his first year's work as a
medical student, has completed the
terns and is home ort vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth L:dighoffer
of Biggar, Sask., were week -end vis-
itors with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ed. Edighoffer. Kenneth ref:t on Tu-
esday for the West where he is called
for military service.

Prance—Hay
The manse at Thames Road Un-
ited church was the scene of a quiet
wedding_ on Saturday afternoon,
May 16, at 4.30. when Rev:_ Mair' an-
ited in wecldlock Doreen, second da-
ughter of Mr.. Sandi ktrs. William Hay
of Zurich and Gordon, youngest son
of Mr. and Mrs. Prance of Woodham
The bride wore a: pale blue street
length dress, with contro:stiirg acces-
sories, and she carried a bouquet of
bridal wreath and. tul pa. The wed-
ding march was played by Miss
Alpha Meyers, cousin of the bride.
Guests were; tile bride's parents, a
bhother Charles, and a sister Kath-
leen; also Mr;. T. Meyc;rs• and 'Mr's.
M. Stelek of Ztn' ch.. After the cer-
emony the young courple left for
London. Om Sunday cbening supper
was served' to a fees friends and re-
latives at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Win. Hay, Zurich', in honor of the
bride and groom. The Homer joins
their many Zurich friends in extend-
ing best wishes..
OBITUARY
Late Conrad Vollan.tr
There passecl.away at the home of
;his grandson, Clarence Volland, at
:Hensel], last Wednesday, May 13th,
Conrad Volland, well-known resident
of the vicinity in his 88th year, and
passed away after a week's illness,
which had confined him to his bed.
He was a resident of Hensall for the
past nineteen years, previously ]iv-
ing or the Babylon 'line, Hay Town-
.laip where he farmed. Last fall he
left .Renals to Iive with his grand-
son in T'uckersmith. The deceased
n: s always a hard working than, was
;mart and active for his years, and
believed in early rising, always up
and worming at 5 a.m. Surviving are
oaf' daughter, Mrs, Wrn. Leibold,.
Zurich; two sons, Emrnanuek and
Henry, of Goderich, and once sister,
Miss Caroline, of Zurich. The fun-
eral .services were held from the
home of his grandson, Clarence, on
Friday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev.
R. A. Brook, with 1.9.1101 an Iien5 FT1
union Cemetery.
