Varna Red Cross Notes
In support of the appeal by the
Canadian Red Cross to collect $9,-
000,000 for the pressing needs of
the Society the Ont. Executive, after
careful consideration, has set the
Varna Branch quota at $800. The
opening date of the campaign is
May 11 and continuing till May 25.
Since the last •campaign, in Oct-
ober .1940, the people of ,Canada have
responded generously • and willingly
to special Red Cross appeals. The
thousands of women volunteers a-
cross Canada have served and knit-
ted continuously on supplies for our
armed forces (air, sea and land),
for the bomb victims in Britain and
for our hospitals. The high object-
ive is necessary by the steady incre-
asing need for prisoner of. war par-
cels which :are packed weekly and
sent to the many thousands of Can-
adian and British prisoners lin alien
joined the army.
Keith Weber who has been ill in
a military Hospital in London, has
returned home much improved.
Mr. ,and Mrs. Cowan of Fergus,
and Mr, and Mrs. Derby of Hanover,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Kellerman.
Mr. and Mrs. Malin Watto have
moved into Mr. E. R. Guenther's
building •on Main Street.
.A dance will be held in Tieman's
Hall on Friday night with Murdock's
orchestra in attendance.
HENSALL
Fire broke :out in the Brock resi-
dence on main st. in the chimney
which might have resulted in disas-
trous results and with a high wind
prevailing, much damage was crone
by smoke and water. Hensall fire
brogade and hundreds of citizens
countries who would otherwise not from Hensall and district responded
be provided with a balanced diet to promptly when the fire siren sound -
maintain health. As time goes on ed, and rendered valued assistance.
it is expected these parcils will have Late .Mrs. Levi Rands
► to greatly increase in numbers, each
parcel costs ;approximately $2.50.
When the Red Cross asks the peo-
ple of Varna district for funds to
continue the multitudinous duties of
the society the appeal will not be in
vain, for they know what this com-
forting "lamp" means in a world
darkend by destruction and tragedy;.
Canvassers have been assigned to
the • different sections of the comm-
unity and will be calling at your
home, (objective $800.)
DASHWOO

Deacon" will be presented in .Rader's
Garage on Friday evening May 15th,
