Engagement Mrs. Mary Manson announces the engagement of her daughter, Beatrice Mae to Newell Rannie Geiger, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Geiger. The marriage to take place the latter part of February. Mrs. Josiah Geiger and Mrs. H. Magel of town received the sad news the. latter part of last week of the sudden death of their only living brother, Mr. Ezra Smith of Detroit, who died at the age of 66 years. The late Mr. Smith was raisedonthe 14th Con. Hay, and many years ago went to Detroit where he was very pros- perous as a building contractor. Mrs. Earl Yungblut has just re- turned from a three weeks' trip to Detroit, where she accompanied her brother, Mr. Harold iKlopp of Lon- don, and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Haist of Mt. Clemens, on a trip to Florida. They had a most lovely motor trip to the south, as the roads and weather was nice, and the scenery lovely. Son is honored The home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Campbell, 2nd Con., Hay, was the scene of a very interesting event, when a large number of neighbors and friends met to honor their son, Roy, of St. Catharines, .who is sign- ing up for overseas service. The bride looked charmingly in a street length dress of tea rose with blue accessor- ies. Following the ceremony the co- uple left for a trip to Toronto, the bride wearing a blue outfit for trav- ei'llin:g. They will reside in -Stratford. FORMER PASTOR DIES The death of Rev. James William Penrose took place on Jan. 4th, at Exeter at his residence. aster an ill- nness of several months. He was pastor of the Varna circuit of the United Church for a number of ye- ars. Born in Hull, England in No- vember, 18G7, and for some years was a mission worker in Hull and Manchester. He came to Canada in 1912 with his family and held var- ious charges including Varna and Elirnvnllt. Com. fractured both bones of his right leg above the ankle when he fell into a post hole near Centralia airport. He had been wor- king with the rural hydro gang in- stalling a sub -station at Centralia to supply the power for the RCAF air- field now under construction. He was taken to London hospital. They will take up residence there. Pilot Gerald Passmore, of Ottawa visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore for a few days. Gerald has 75 hours of flying and 40 hrs. of solo to his credit. The friends of Mrs. R. Higgins, of Exeter, and former Hensall residents' regret to learn that that she was talc- en to Victoria Hospital, London, for a serious operation but is improving. David Kilpatrick has left for Lon- don where he has secured a good position. Mrs. Kilpatrick remaining in Hensall. Miss Mary Clark, who holds a good position in. Wingham was a re- cent visitor with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alf. 'Clark. Pte. Lloyd 0. Nichol, of the High- land Light Infantry, who has been serving in England and has returned hone, called at the home of his co- usin, Mrs. Mary .Buchanan. Lloyd is now serving at London. Three old,. er brothers are also serving in Eng- land: Mr. G. C. Petty, who has been in poor health for the past few weeks. was taken to London Hospital for treatment.
