It was the first Red and Black championship for South Huron since 1971. Coach Doug Ellison said he was pleased with his team's performance adding, "It was a surprising win for a very young team. All members won at least one match to contribute to the team total. South Huron accumulated a total of 95 points, four more than the runners-up from Water- loo Collegiate. Sarnia Northern was a close third with 90 points and Kitchener Collegiate was fourth, another point behind. Other schools competing were from Banting and Clarke Road of London, Lambton Central, Goderich and Parkhill. The South Huron win was paced by the outstanding per- formance by Mike Westelaken at 115 pounds. Mike won all four matches he participated in, three by pins. In the final Mike defeated Dave McCann of Parkhill, Last year's WOSSA champion at 98 pounds. He was also named the best South Huron wrestler of the week. Brian Thompson won three matches at 141 pounds and finished fourth. Rick Skinner was named the most improved wrestler of the week for his performance in the 148 pound class. Rick, a grade 10 student lost in the final to Frank Zeph of Kitchener, a grade 13 student. Mark Paton at 130 pounds finished second losing to Ontario Winter Games regional rep- resentative, Bob Bonshell of Banting. Others placing second were John Coolman at 168 pounds and Rick Bilcke at 194 pounds. Each won two matches. Rick Bilcke was third in the unlimited class with a pair of victories. Perry Sereda, Brian Mauer and Richard Rooseboom each won two matches. Getting one win apiece were Darrell Preszcator, Randy Fisher, Vincent Winters, Bryan Baker and Murton Brock. Two drivers 1 Iicence A London man, who was involv- ed in a 23 -mile police chase, was fined $203 or 20 days and had his licence suspended for one month when his case was heard by Judge Glenn Hays in Exeter court, Tuesday. Raymond Rueger was not in court, but evidence indicated he' "thought he'd try to out -run the cruiser." Police spotted his car with a faulty tail -light in the first place, and when they attempted to stop his vehicle, the accused sped off and went through six stop signs during the chase from Centralia to the Grand Bend area and into Zurich. In one 50 m.p.h. zone, his speed was clocked at 85. Gordon Kennedy, Huron Park, was fined $200 or 20 days and his Parkhill leads in South Huron According to results released Monday by statistician Bob Somervile, the North Middlesex Merchants of Parkhill continue to lead the South Huron Inter- mediate hockey league with a total of 21 points. Centralia College is in second spot with 13 points, the Exeter Mohawks are in third spot with an even dozen points and Arkona is in fourth place with 11 points. The Zurich Flyers are fifth with 10 points, the Shipka Colonials have five points and the Huron Park Plugs are in the base- ment with four points. Mike Chalmers of Parkhill leads the league in scoring with 41 points and Jim Davis of Centralia . is runner-up with 34 points. Winding up the top ten are Wayne Ropp and Ernie Schlegel of Parkhill, Gary Hudson and Derrick Martin of Centralia, Robert Thoman, Parkhill, Brad Spiers, Centralia and Jack Glover of Exeter. Jack Glover leads the Exeter Mohawks scorers with 20 points, John Becker is tops for the Shipka Colonials with 1.3 points, John Thomas leads Huron Park with 16, Ron Desjardine is best for the Zurich Flyers, also with 16 and Jim Davis heads Centralia College with 34 points. Atoms lose to Clinton In a Saturday Western Ontario Athletic Association atom league game Clinton downed the Zurich youngsters by a score of 5-1. Philip Dzioba, R.R.3 Exeter, was fined $100 or 10 days on a charge of causing a disturbance at Les Pines Motel in Exeter on June 28. A fight was involved. Judge Hays said patrons are sickened, not amused, at such situations. A London man, David Hunt, who ran into a train south of Exeter was fined $108 on a care- less driving charge. Evidence revealed the light was on the train and the bell was ringing. His car was demolished and damage to the train was set at $500. In other cases heard, the foll- owing fines were levied: George Bieber, Huron Park, $53 for having liquor in a place other than his residence. James Salvona, Huron Park, $53 for having liquor while under the legal age. James Carter, London, $78 for a speed of 85 in a 60 zone and Darrell Costain, Burlington, $63 for a speed of 50 in a 30 zone. Glen Kenney, R.R.2, Crediton, $123 for a speed of 100 in a 60 zone.
