HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1975-12-10, Page 38k� >LL:r GULL Varna, Ont. between hlwgs _ 4 & 21 Page 18 - Citizens News, Dec, 17/75 Huron -Perth to buy nursery instruction Huron -Perth County Ronan Catholic Separate School Board authorized the purchase of nursery school instruction from the Waterloo County Board of Education at the Smithson Public School Nursery Class for a child with impaired hearing, at a meeting in Dublin Monday night. The board accepted the resig- nation of Peter Koens, Grade 8 teacher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, RR 3, Dashwood, -effective December 31, 1975. The Huron County Board of Education ' informed the board it was not able to offer the repair service of its audio-visual depart - News o On Thursday evening, several parents attended Cub and Scout Investiture ceremonies in the Old Town Hall. Cub leader Allan Yates, who is called Akela by his Cubs, invested Robbie Boyce, Billy Sinnammon, Harold Brandon, Parry Garner and twins, Johnnie and Jamie Sauve into the Bayfield Cub Pack. After repeating the Cub Law and Promise, the new Cubs were presented with their scarves Ontario emblems and sixer patches. Akela Yates and his assistants, Jeff Mayman as Bagheers and Tom Hill as Baloo presented David Phoenix with his Physical fitness prophiciency badge; Bobby Dunn with his Toy Makers Badge and Robbie Boyce his House Orderly badge. Seven Cubs advanced to Scouts and were given three cheers as a welcome by Scouter John Siertsema and the Scout Troop. The boys were Ricky Johnston, Gary Samways, Robbie Sertsema, Roger McKinley, Richard Scrog- gs, Darin Telford and Larry Taman. Three boys were also invested into Scouts; David Hill Raymond Orr and Michael Telford. Mr. Joe Mayman of the Group Com- mittee, assisted Scouter Siert- sema in presenting sashes and scarves to all the new scouts. The Ontario emblem and one year Service stripes were also pre- sented. During the impressive cere- monies, Mr. Doug Sinnamon pre- sented an Official Wolf Head to the Cub Pack on behalf of his family as a thank you to the village for the kind reception they had received since moving to Bayfield. The termination of the board lease with R. S. Box, Seaforth, for the former board office was approved effective December 1 at a discount of $215 saving to the board. F. J. Vere, Stratford, chairman of the building maintenance committee, reported the concrete footing had been completed at St. Patrick's School, Kinkora. He said work to be done in December includes the cement block foundation for the new addition and gravel fill, along with the installation of under- ground drains Mr. Vere said the addition being built by Barfield day night, December 20 for their Annual Carol Sing around the Village. Smith visited for the past week with her family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowse, Jim, Vicki, Cathy, Jill and Dale in London. Mrs. Effie Freeman, Wood- stock and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jul1, ,Burford visited during the weekend with the ladies' father, Mr. Ray Schell and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Talbot. Mr. Bud Sturgeon and Miss Barbara Davidson, London were guests for the weekend with Bud's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Sturgeon and brother Andrew. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Irwin and Robbie, London spent Saturday with Rob's family, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Erickson, Andrew, Luanne and Lydia. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith, Paris, visited Sunday with his mother, Mrs. L.B. Smith. An overnight guest on Monday with Mrs. Smith was her sister, Mrs. George Reid of Varna. Mr. Ray Schell and Mrs. Nor- man Talbot visited last week with Mr. Schell's sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Schell in Gadshill. Mr. and Mrs. William Oesch and Terry, Goshen Line had as their Sunday dinner guests. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Martin and girls and Mr. Alvin Steckle. • Scott Lamont of Godcrich is spending a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam Oesch and aunt Terry, Goshen Linc. Howard Shantz, Stratford, chairman of the policy and bylaw committee presented a report of updating several bylaws. Included in the changes approved by the board is one that calls for newly elected trustees to be invited to all meetings of the board in December prior to taking office in January in order to become acquainted with other members and to be in- formed about procedures. Trustees Ted Geoffrey of Zurich and Donald Crowley of Gadshill reported on a recent Christian Curriculum Conference they had attended in London, the topic social justice. The confe- rence was sponsored by the Ontario English Catholic Teach- ers Association. They reported it was "geared for teachers rather than trustees," and both ex- pressed disappointment in it.
