Mrs. Olive Miller presided for the meeting which opened by all singing many of the favour- ite Christmas carols with Mrs. Clarke Kennedy at the piano. Get well cards were passed around to be signed by all, for Mrs. Susie Devine and Mrs. John Lovie who are patients in Strathroy hospital. Rev. and Mrs. Harley Moore were guests and he spoke to the ladies about symbols, customs and legends of Christmas. Several hymns from the new U.C. hymn book were sung. It was decided that the U.C.W. would send 5500 for mission work. Mrs. Bill Love volunteered to act as secretary for the corning year. Hostesses were Mrs. Raymond Kading and Mrs. Les Adams. ORPHA CLUB The Orpha Club held their Christmas meeting, ' Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Roy Flear, with 24 in attendance. President Mrs. Clarke Ken- nedy_ opened by thanking mem- bers and others who contributed so generously for the shower gifts. which were , on display for the Children's Aid at Sarnia. Each member supplied a number for the program and prizes were donated for different categories of entertainment. The quilt which had been made and donated by Mrs. Etta Baker was won by Mrs. Jim Prance. Reeve Bob Sharen loaned his reel and projector and the ladies saw the pictures, "Many faces of Grand Bend." Next meeting will be at the home, of Mrs. Lawrence Curts in Green Acres. The Church of God Ladies held their Christmas meeting, Thursday evening, in the form of a dinner party at the Village Inn Retreat. They sang several favourite Christmas carols, followed by a few games, social time and visiting. PERSONALS Mrs. Marjorie Knight, London spent a few days last week with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Wellwood Gill. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Smith, Wiarton spent last weekend in Grand Bend, when they visited her father Ezra Webb and her aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Art Finkbeiner. • Mr. & Mrs. Len Johnston of Sarnia were Sunday dinner guests with their daughter and son-in-law and grandsons, Rev. & Mrs. Harley Moore. Jonathon • Denomme, and friends Pam and Jennifer Breg- man, Dashwood, spent the week- end with Jon's grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Roy Morenz, Glenda and Tammy. Mrs. Annie Sherritt, Parkhill visited Sunday with Mrs. Rosie Grigg. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Morenz, Glenda and Tammy, were pre - Christmas dinner guests Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Morenz, Cheri and Michelle in London. Couples Club met Saturday The Grand Bend couples club met Saturday evening at the United Church with 18 present. The group set up the outside "Nativity Scene," also donated and decorated a Christmas tree for the Sunday school. Mrs. Morley Desjardine led the group in a sing song of favorite Christmas carols and songs. An exchange of Christmas gifts was enjoyed by means of a little game. Morley Desjardine read the "Inn Keeper's" story. At the close of the meeting they all sat down for a delicious turkey dinner with all the trim- mings. Church of God The Church of God ladies were in charge of the worship service Sunday evening. Emil Sonnenburg of Cambridge, showed slide pictures of his visit to Siberia in the summer of 1974. Mrs. Phyllis Desjardine and Mrs. Joan Ratz sang a duet,"Because He lives." White Gift Sunday at United Church White Gift Sunday was ob- served at the United Church Sunday morning. The Sunday school children took part in the service. Susan Fischer read .the scripture lesson. Various Sunday school mem- bers read the legends, and cus- toms of Christmas. Mrs. N. Hemingway read, "The White Gift Story," GB Lions top non-commercial float Bell Aerospace and Green Forest won top prize GB VARIETY - Renee and Vicki Clarke of Grand Bend chat with Ray Buchanan, the headline performer at the Grand Bend Variety show held at the Ausable Centre on Sunda3 The concert was sponsored by the Grand Bend Recreation Committee. • (News photo) ATTEND OPEN HOUSE - Grand Bend officials were among those attending the open house held at the Village Inn Retreat on Sunday afternoon.
