President Hilda Payne welcomed all by wishing everyone a very Merry Christ- mas and a Happy New Year. The roll call was answered by eighteen members with "A special dish from another cult- ure." Marg Ingram gave the treas- urers report. Correspondence was a letter from the War Memor- ial Children 's Hospital. A letter from Mr. Eric Luther ann- ouncing the correct amount of the CNIB canvass and a news report from Muscular Dyst- rophy. It was voted to continue with the CAS Bursary to be paid at the January meeting. The program conveners were Jessis Mc- Allister and Grace Peck. The program took the form of a fun night with many surprises and everyone participating. Gladys Coleman, Jessie McAllister, Annie Reid, Pearl Koehler, Elsie Carlisle, Jessie Armst- rong, Susan Purdy, Rose Harris and Hazel Corbett all gave int- eresting readings. Everyone enjoyed a sing- song of Jingle Bells and two Christmas carols. Amy and Greta Lammie performed a monologue, Amy recited "I heard the bells on Christmas Day" while Greta accompanied her on the piano. Edna Pepper and Hilda Payne favoured everyone with a duet, each playing the piano and viol- in respectively. Sara Simpson illustrated "Every man's mem- ory is his private literature" with a harmonica reminiscence Altd lata Mr. and Mrs. Ken McLean, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Turner and Mrs. M. McAllister, Hensall attended the christening Sunday, December 14 of Brent Andrew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mc— Lean at Rowntree United CHurch, London. Other members of the family attended from Zurich, Walton and London. Dinner followed at the McLean resid- ence. showing how music stimulates memory. Grace Peck and Joyce Pepper played piano solos. Myrtle Sherritt read "The Night befoi Christmas" with Greta Laramie playing softly on the piano. Nellie Riley and Grace Peck conducted two contests. Marg Ingram read short stories of how they celebrate Christmas in Ireland, Norway, Colonial America and in the Netherlands. Courtesy remarks were instructions to give the person beside you a pat on the back! Everyone sang Silent Night and the meeting closed with the Queen. Hostesses were Marg Ingram and Rose Harris. White Gift' White Gift Sunday was cele- brated at the Hensall United Church. It was also the third Advent Sunday. Rev. Don Beck did not offer the customary sermon but instead read a poen "The Christmas Question" and told of various Christmas customs and legends. Jacquel- ine Hyde lit the third Advent candle. The choir under the direction of Mrs. John Turk- heim sang the anthem, "Shep- herds On The Hillside. Sunday evening the annual carol service was held. The choir presented special yuletide selections and everyone enjoyed singing old and favorite Christ- mas carols. St P u1 s ACW The regular meeting of the St. Paul's A.C.W. was held at the home of Mrs. Frank Forrest on Thursday afternoon. The presid- ent Mrs. Anderson opened the meeting with a prayer. The minutes were read and approv- ed and the roll call was answered with a Christmas verse. A Christ- mas box was packed for the shut- ins of the church. The study book "The Unexp- ected Ways" was given by Miss Petty. Mrs. Anderson read the Christmas Story and carols were sung. Everyone took part in the scripture reading. Rev. Anderson presided over the election of off- icers for the corning year. Mrs. Anderson closed the meeting with prayer. LARGE CROWD - Almost 400 persons toured the newly ren- ovated Zurich branch of the Hensall District Co-op an. Fri- day and Saturday. Above, some of the youngsters watch very intensely. (News photo) Chiselhurst Christmas meeting of the United Church Women was held in the church, Tuesday. The president Mrs. Earla Cole- man opened the meeting with a Christmas poem and welcomed the visitors. The roll call was answered by eighteen members naming their favourite Christmas hymn. The offering was dedicated by an offeration prayer being sung. The treasurer's report was given for the year. Letters were read from the Chilcjren's Aid in Huron County and also a Thank -you from the Mission Services in London for the donation received. The ladies' were reminded to save their stamps. Mrs. Coleman thanked all who helped her in her term of office as pres- ident. Mrs. Alf Ross played a piano solo "Star of the East." Mrs. Dorothy Parker used as her theme for the worship serv- ice "Home For Christmas," Mrs. Pearl Taylor, Mrs. Vera Brintnell and Mrs. Eliza Kins- man assisted her by reading the scriptures. Christmas carols were sung. Mrs. Phyllis Parsons, Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell, Mrs. Marg Cole, and Mrs. Mary Brintnell took part in a "Candle Lighting Ceremony." Rev. Beck and Mrs. Beck told the Christmas story as it may have been told to others by Joseph, Mary and one of the wise men. The meeting closed Hensall wi In a recent Western Ontario Athletic Association atom division hockey game, Hensall scored a 5-2 victory over Zurich. Hensall led 2-1 at the end of the first period on goals by Ian Munroe and Ron Lavery. An assist was picked up by Scott Jesney. The lone Zurich marker was chalked up by Paul Johnston on a pass from Dean Armstrong. 9 by singing "Silent Night" and Rev. Beck gave the Benedict- ion. Presents were exchanged by "Secret Pals" and all visitors received gifts as well. Hostesses were Mrs. Sarah Dick, Mrs. Freda Boa and Mrs. Beatrice Boyce. ns in atom Hensall broke the game open with three goals in the second period. Ron Lavery fired a pair of successful shots and Scott Jesney added the odd counter. Assists on one goal by Lavery were provided by Scott Jesney and David Skea. The final Zurich goal came from the stick of Dean Armstrong on a three-way effort with Paul Johnston and Kevin Lavery. ENT!
