Varna UCW hold dinner
by Mrs. Bill Chessell
The Christmas meeting of the
United Church Women began
with a delicious potluck supper.
A number of guests were present,
including several former mem-
bers. After supper, we joined in a
worship service which began with
a poem by Mrs. Stirling, `The
Secret of Christmas'. The hymn
'O Little Town of Bethlehem' was
sung, and Mrs. Ivan McClymont
read the Christmas Story from the
book of Matthew.
Mrs. Cliff Talbot of Bayfield,
assisted by her daughter Mrs.
Louise Bigellow, showed pictures
of her tour of Egypt in the area of
the Nile River, and the Holy
Land. Her commentary was very
interesting and informative,
bringing alive the settings for
events we read of in the Bible.
Mrs. Stirling presided for
business. The new slate of of-
ficers was presented by Mrs.
Gordon Hill. Donations are to be
sent to the Children 's Aid Society
and the Victor Home for Girls.
Plans were made to pack Christ-
mas boxes for shut-ins, and we
were reminded of the Christmas
concert on December 22.
Mrs. Aldie Mustard, who has
moved to Brucefield, was pre-
sented with a life membership
and a gift in recognition of her
faithful service in our group. The
meeting closed with the Lord's
Prayer.
'The annual White Gift Service
will be held on Sunday, with of-
ficers and members of the Sunday
School taking part.
