Hawks gain two wins,
victories now at six
The Exeter Hawks scored two
victories in three starts during
the past week to up their season
Ontario Hockey Association
Junior "D" record to six wins
and four defeats.
Tuesday of last week, the
Hawks gained revenge for a
previous loss by scoring an
impressive victory by a score
of 7-4 over the Mitchell Hawks
in Mitchell.
Friday night on their home ice
at the Exeter arena, the Hawks
continued their winning ways
with another decisive win.
This time the score was 15-5
over Mt. Brydges.
Sunday night on 0 trip to
Belmont, the locals winning
streak was snapped when they
lost 6-2 to the Belmont Ronwood
Bombers.
The Hawks are back in action
on successive nights this week.
Thursday they travel to Tavis-
tock to meet the Braves and the
following night, Friday they
play host to the Seaforth Cen-
te n n aires.
FALL BEHIND QUICKLY
Sunday night in Belmont,
the Hawks found themselves
behind 3-0 at the end of the
first period.
The first Exeter goal came at
9.56 of the second period when
Brian Taylor fired a successful
shot on passes from Fred Mom-
mersteeg and Steve Jennison.
The second and final for the
Hawks was counted in the
third period on an unassisted
effort by Ken Pinder.
Very few penalties were
called in a game which was a
complete contrast to the penalty
filled game between the two
clubs in Exeter on November 28.
Against Mt. Brydges Friday
night the Hawks came out
flying ai-d fired six goals in the
first period without a reply from
the visitors. -
Left winger Gerald Weido
completed a hat trick in the
first 20 minutes of play to get
his team off on the right foot.
Also scoring in the first period
were Ken Pinder, Brian Taylor
and Matt Muller.
Fred Mommersteeg picked
up assists on three of the first
frame markers. Helping on one
goal apiece were Brian Taylor,
John Van Gerwen, Rick Mom-
mersteeg, Steve Jennison, Gerald
Weida. Phil Knight and Rick
Ingram.

Taylor scored three times to
up his game total to four. It
eventually reached five, The
other ' Exeter goal came from
the stick of Matt Muller on
passes from Rick Mommersteeg
and Steve Jennison.
Gerald Weido gained assists
on all three scores by Taylor.
Double assists were added by
Fred Mommersteeg and Rick
Mommersteeg. Getting a single
assist was Steve Jennison.
In the final frame, Brian
Taylor was back with his fifth
score and singles were added
by Steve Jennison, Bill Van. -
Bergen, Rick Ingram and Rick
Mommersteeg.
Gerald Weido added two
assists to run his garne point
total to eight. Brian Taylor ended
up with the sante number of
points.
The game against Mitchell was
only 46 seconds old when Brian
Taylor put the Exeter club in
front as he converted a pass
from Rick Grenier. It was the
first of -three goals for Taylor.
At the midway mark of the
opening frame, Rick Ingram put
the Hawks in front 2-0 on a pass
from Don McKellar.
The Exeter youngsters scored
three times in the second period.
Phil Knight started things off
with a successful shot at 4.46 with
the assists going to Cant Haist
and Rick Grenier.
In the latter stages of the
period, Brian Taylor completed
his hat trick performance. Paul
