high-speed chase
Exeter OPP solved one major
area theft this week, but ended
up with another to investigate.
On Thursday, the payrool
cheques from Protective Plastics,
Huron Park, were reported miss-
ing from the company's prem-
ises. Police investigation indic-
ated there was no visible signs
of a break and enter.
The cheques stolen amounted
to $2,658.
Police recovered almost
half of the $7,000 in chical
weed killer that had been stolen
at Centralia Farmers' Supply
on June 7.
A Huron Park man, Murray
Paquette, has been charged as
a result of that investigation.
Several other thefts and acts
of vandalism were reported in
the detachment area this week.
Dennis Brock, R.R.1, Wood-
ham, reported the theft of a
coat from his truck which was
parked on the side of the road.
It was valued at $30.
Mrs. Nellie Stephens, R.R.4,
Komoka, had the tail gate stolen
from a truck she had parked
in Hay Township, while Marion
Averill, Crediton, reported the
theft of a lighter from her home.
Charges are pending in that
incident.
Mrs. Nora Soldan, Hensall,
apparently frightened thieves
off when she returned to her
home after a brief visit else-
where and found her TV sitting
on the front lawn. The incident
occurred on Thursday at 8:45
p.m.
The Hensall 54 to a $1.00
store was broken into December
1 and $87 in cash stolen.
Three Hensall area residents
also had their cars damaged in
the, past week, all the incidents
occurring on Saturday.
Larry Baird's car, which was
parked at Big '0' was damaged
to the extend of $50, while
Albert Rooseboom had two
tires slashed and Mrs. Joyce
Lavender had some paint spray-
ed on her vehicle.
ACCIDENTS
Area drivers managed to
successfully cope with the area's
first snow storm of the season.
Only one acident was reported
on Tuesday, that at 2:45 p.m.,
when a car driven by Mary Soud-
ant, R.R.1, Varna, skidded near
the intersection of Highway 4
and 84 in Hensall and hit a
concrete culvert. Total damage
was set at $625 by Constable
Larry Christiaen.
There were two accidents on
Wednesday, one the result of
a high-speed chase by Constable
Bill McIntyre in Huron Park
at 10:30 p.m. He was attempt-
ing to stop a vehicle driven by
Brian Coughlin, R.R.1, Atwood.
The latter 's vehicle went out
of control during the chase on
Nova Scotia Ave. and hit a cement
walk. The driver and two pass-
engers sustained minor injur-
ies. The passengers were David
Bowles, R.R.2, Atwood, and
Grant Hammond, R.R.3, Inger-
soll. Damage to the Coughlin
vehicle was set at $2,000 by
Constable McIntyre. The driver
has been charged with dangerous
driving.
The other accident occurred
at 5:35 when vehicles
driven by L. Alexander, R.R.1,
Hensall and Russell Harris,
R.R.6 St. Marys, collided just
east of the Highway 4 and 83
intersection. Total damage was
listed at $550 by Constable
Dale Lamont.

board meets
Members of the official board
of the United Church met Tues-
day evening. A team from Huron
-Perth Presbytery consisting of
Rev. Morley Clark of London,
Rev. Don Dees of Mitchell, Rev.
Cecil Wittich of Blyth and Harold
Coade of Mitchell, conducted the
meeting on the theme `Spiritual
Growth of the church'. Rev. M.
Clark led in group singing accom-
panying on his guitar.
