Zurich Citizens News, 1975-10-23, Page 34PAGE 16 - ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS, OCTOBER 30, 1975 Zurich Iters prepare for coming season The Zurich Flyersare busy preparing for the coming seas- on in South Huron Hockey League action, and are hold- ing workouts in both Clinton and Exetr until ice is avail- able in the local arena. Manager of this year's entry is Doug Meidinger, while coach Bob Merner is back at the helm for his second term. Carl Fink- beiner is acting in the capac- ity of trainer, a position which. he has held for some years now. Three men are working out for the goal -tending position. They are last year's regulars Percy Bedard and Glenn Gascho, along with Jim Wild- fong, a graduate of Zurich's minor hockey program. Working out up front are returnees Pat Bedard, Bob Brown, Ron Desjardine, Bob Farquhar, Richard Fisher, Kevin McKinnon, Bob Merner, Glen Overholt, Ron Rader, Jim Ramer, Richard Schilbe, Ken Smale, Ray Weido, Paul Cyr, Ron Oesch, Ron Corriveau and Paul Cor- riveau. The Corriveau broth- ers, long-time favourites with local fans, are returning to the Zurich line-up this year after missing one season. To date the only player not back on the ice from last year's squad is veter- an defenceman Dick Bedard, who was chosen the "most valuable defenceman" in the 1974-75 season. An added point of interest in South Huron League this season will be the select- ion of three stars at the end of each game played. There will be records kept and trophies will be given to the three top point gett- ers at the end of the season. Manager of the Zurich Arena, Jerry Rader, is still not sure when ice will be available locally, due to ren- ovations being carried out on the building.
