(continued from page 1)
Mr. Heath indicated this
results in new problems for
CAS and said that problems
are also arising from homes
where the parents are at-
tempting to "stick it are,
because of the children. One
in every five single parent
families is now headed by
the father.
Of 158 children in the care
of CAS from January to Sept-
ember, 78 were teenagers.
At the end of September,
there were 86 children in
care with 49 - or just slightly
under 60 per cent of this num-
ber being teenagers.
"We can only anticipate
this trend will continue,"
Mr. Heath went on. He admit-
ted the board and the CAS
workers felt deep concern
for this problem.
"There are few pat -solut-
ions," Mr. Heath said.
"The answer is not found
in a simple index in a comm-
unity or a book."
It costs slightly under
'510 per day for a child to be
in care in Huron County.
The director described this
as a "very cheap bargain"
when one considers this is a
total package involving admin-
istration, social workers,
room and board, clothing and
medical care.
He offered the highest
praise to the county 's foster
parents, and said that sightly
over two-thirds of them are
now giving five years or more
of service to the CAS here.
As an extra_ of
concern, however, Mr. Heath
said there was "dwindling
number of homes" available
for the teenagers taken into
Marc. He spoke of the county's
group home operated by Mr.
and Mrs. Dennis Brown of
Middlesex County where eight
teenagers from 14 to 16 years
of age are presently in care.

OLUE WATER REST HOME'
Although the weekend
was rather damp and dreary,
the atmosphere here was
quite a cherry one. The annual
Thanksgiving dinner for res-
idents and their families
was held on Sunday afternoon
with the usual large attend-
ance of the resident's children
and grandchildren. Mrs. Len-
ore Turkheim and Mrs.
Beatrice Geiger presided at
the organ during the afternoon
and during the dinner hour
which was very much apprec-
iated and enjoyed by the
residents. Guests and Man-
agement of the Hone. We
also wish to thank the memb-
ers of the Ladies Auxiliary
who assisted in the kitchen
and diningroom, also all oth-
er volunteers.
The Auxiliary will be hold-
ing their November meeting
on Tuesday, November 4,
at 7 p.m. at the Horne. All
ladies of the locality are invit-
ed to attend the meetings and
new members would be very
welcome. Please note that the
9th annual bazaar and bake
sale will be held on Satur-
day, November 15 from 2 to
4 p.m. at the Home. All donat-
ions of bazaar items and Nome
baked goods would be greatly
appreciated by the members
of the Auxilia>ry, as well as
the residents who benefit
from the proceeds. On Tues-
day morning Mr. Lawrence
Wein paid his regular monthly
visit to the Home playing the
piano and singing with the
residents.
We are pleased to welcome
Mr. Clarence Knight to the
Home. He is a former Exeter
resident.

Successful
summer
Camp Menesetung, a proj-
ect of Huron -Perth Presby-
tery of the United Church of
Canada, has completed a
successful summer of ,vamp-
ing. The Camp which is situat-
ed three miles north of
Goderich off No 21 Highway
has become a center of act-
ivity for the Huron -Perth
Presbytery as well as other
groups. Certain improvements
have extended the season
from mid May until after
Thanksgiving weekend.
This past season the Pres-
bytery camps included prog-
rams for Co-ed Junior High,
Junior Boys, Junior Girls,
PreTeen Girls, Parents with-
out Partners as well as a week-
end for Teenage Co-ed Camp-
ing.
Outside groups using the
facilities have been schools
from Brussels, Stratford and
Lambton as well as groups
like the Brownies, Recreat-
ion Councils and Playground
leaders. The Chickigami
Boys' Camp from London,
the American Leadership
College, and Ba Hai -Ontario
Region make good use of the
camp each year. A number
of youth groups, counsellor
reunions and church groups
use the facilities on weekends
with some churches making
it an annual event with a sum-
mer service and picnic.
Mr. Joe Snider, of God-
erich who has been the bus-
iness manager for over 20
years reports almost a full
schedule booked for Camp
Menesetung for 1976 with the
possibility of a weekend for
family camping.
