Warning on Kentwood beans (by Pat Lynch, • Soils and Crops Specialist, OM AF) Last spring a certain perc- entage of Kentwood beans were planted. This new var- iety had been extensively tested prior to its licencing. One of the characteristics of this bean is that it is a larger size than either Sanilac or Seafarer. Any grower del- ivering Kentwood beans would be well advised to check with his local elevator operat- or before delivering this variety. Since the Kentwood bean is lager than Seafarer or San- ilac a different size of screen is required for handling this bean. If Kentwood beans are handled on the same size of screen as Seafarer and Sanilac a certain percentage of Kent- wood beans will be screened ou t. Therefore in order to min- imize the amount of clean- out from these beans Kent- wood beans should only be cleaned through the correct size of screen. One way to check, is to look at a sample of the beans that are screen- ed out. PUMPKIN, YELLOW, Mrs. Irene Blackwell, CABBAGE2 HEADS: Mrs. Irene Blackwell, Mrs. Freda Boa.
