Council was unanimous 111 its decision that an across- the-board rate of $5,00 per day be charged for•each child attending. The centre is to open September 29 and will provide service from 6:30 a.nl. to 5:30 p.nl. Robin Gates of Vanastra, who was spokesman for the quarrel seeking the. lower -ate, upset the cuncil memb- ers when he informed them die Day Care Centre would ,operate at a deficit. Reeve Elgin Thompson said alar when the Vanastra group tpproaehed council in the firs( place requesting the Centre, all agreed with council that it '+.'uld pay its nwn way and tiould not he a baby sitting t l:( 1`It 1;1:.11.DUA'fl l „ Debbie IVIeKinle luti of R•1 r. Mr. Gates said that the government did not expect Day Care Centres to break even. " I don't think 20 per- cent (of the deficit of the cost of running the Day Care at Vanastra) is a lot for council to pick up," he said. The reeve said Tuckersmith had refused to go in with Seaforth on a Day Care in the town because the township refused to pay the deficit incurred by children from the township. Mr. Thompson said costs should be met by people using the service. Mr. Gates said that even with 34 full time children, the capacity number approved by the Ministry of Social Serv- ices for Yanastra at $5.00 per child there would be a dif- icit. He said it would be difficult to estimate how many would register for the opening as the survey had been made a year and a half ago and "you know the turn- o\c'r in population at Van- astra," Deputy Reeve Ervin Sillcry asked if a chid from outside the township could attend the ,'entre and was assured by Mr. Gates that outside child- ren tvould he able 10 register. "And •f'uckersnlith Mould pay the deficit on outsiders." exclaimed Re'\ e Thompson. 11, etas told that the municip- .:i;,‘ trot', which the child a: sonnets mild have to pick hi the lab. At this point Robin Gates said he hclived he had not leen legally appointed to the Day Care Board. Tuckersmith council appoints the members to the seven -members board, including two representatives from council. While council was consid- ering • appointing two mem- bers to fill the vacancies on the board due to resignat- ions. Mr. Gales had self- appointed himself to the board The two cuncil represent- atives, Bert Brandcrhorst and Cleave Coombs, complained that they were not informed of' some meetings of the bond and in fact learned that Miss Radial tires Radial tires for agricult- ural use are not presently available in Ontario. and according to the secretary - manager of the Farm Machin- ery Board, their future .is uncertain. Mr. J. Kessler says the init- ial purchase price of radials is.much greater than that of conventional tires, and although American tests have shown that using radials can save two to five percent on the fuel bill, in order to justify the higher prices of the tires as compared 'to the fuel savings you would have to operate the tractor or implement for 2500, to 4000 hours just 10 break even. McEwing, had been appoint» ed as director from reading the paper. They said they had no opportunity to vote on the hiring and, in fact, still did not know what salary she was paid. The reeve suggested it would be a good idea to have Gates appointed and this was done. Mrs. Margaret Roger- son of R.R.5 Clintn, was named to fill the other vac- ancy an the board, which includes the two councillors and Carol Munroe, Barbara Hodgins and Arthur Forler, all' of Vanastra.
