Interesting meeting of auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of
the Blue Water Rest Home
held their first autumn meet-
ing at the Rest Home on
Tuesday evening, September
2, at 7:30 p.m. The committee
members consisting of Martha
Blackwell, Mary Gingerich
and Rose Regier are to be
congratulated on the splendid
program they presented.
After welcoming the res-
idents, members and visitors,
Martha Blackwell conducted
a flower quiz for the residents,
As they guessed the name of
the flower correctly, that part-
icular flower was pinned on
the winner by Rose Regier.
Some won more than once
and shared with others.
Following was a tap dance
by Gerard, Mary Margaret
and Charlie Bedard. Louise
Regier played two numbers
on the piano, "Kings Review"
and •The Entertainers."
Another number by the Bed-
ard children was performed
and those three numbers were
thoroughly enjoyed by all
present.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Oesch
favoured the group with three
's.
vocal numbers accompanied
by Albert Erb at the piano.
Mrs. Blackwell had a very
interesting football quiz
for all to be answered by a
musical term. This quiz was
very thought-provoking and
brought forth some funny ans-
wers.
The highlight of the evening
was a hat review -all hats to
be made from something in
the home especially the kitch-
en. Mary Gingerich was the
narrator. The following hats
were shown, Bath Mat Bask-
et, Pie Plates, Collander,
Mop, Lamp Shade, Cleanser
and Hot Water Bottle.
The hats were modelled
by Mrs. Curtis Gingerich,
Mrs. Cleve Gingerich, Mrs.
Paul Steckle, Mrs. Neil
Gingerich, Mrs. Beatrice
Geiger, Mrs. Thelma Thiel,
Mrs. Gertrude Fleischauer,
Mrs. Theresa Stark and Miss
Verda Baechler.
This was very different
and enjoyable as all the lad-
ies acted their part very well.
A lunch of cheese cake, tea
and coffee was served to all
as Douglas Klopp played the

The business meeting was
held afterwards in the board
room, with Mrs. Neil Ging-

What do you do when the
musicians show up, but the
party is cancelled? Something
like that happened at Forest
recently, when the Zurich
Centennial Band arrived for a
Tattoo and found the schedule
changed. The band members
were not going to return
home without playing some-
thing, so they went to a main
corner in the town and gave
an impromtu concert. The
mayor of the town was so
appreciative that he invited
all the players out to dinner.
Zurich's Band of twenty-
three musicians, ages twelve
and up, served as artistic
ambassadors for the village;
this summer bringing stirring
music into various commun-
ities in Southwestern Ontario.
There are very .few brass
and woodwind bands in the
area and for a village of
Zurich's population this band
is probably unique.
The band committee would
like to add about ten more
musicians who play or are
willing to learn to play trump-
ets or saxaphones. Instruction
is free except for a -nominal
l'ee for the lease of instru-
ments.
The Band, attended by its
majorettes, is engaged to take
part in fair parades at Luck -
now and Zurich this fall and
during the summer fulfilled
engagements at Clinton,
Hcnsall, Dashwood, Lucan
and Bayfield as well as at
Forest. The Band also provid-
ed the accompaniment for
the hymns sung at the mem-
orial service at one of the
church cemeteries in June.
Practices are held on Thurs-
day evenings at 7:30 at the
Zurich Community Centre.
New members may meet the
officers and instructors of the
Band there at that hour.
The Village of Zurich appre-
ciates the free hours given
by veteran musicians and
young people who come not
only from Zurich but from
other municipalities to join
in the practices and in the
various public engagements.

Wilbur McBride of Kitch-
ener, visited his brother and
other relatives.
Joe McQuarrie is making
a fine addition to his home
in the village.
Wedding bells keep on
ringing again and. again.
Renovations are underway
at St. Andrew's Church,

Continued wet weather had
a very adverse effect on the
bean crop in this area.
Mrs. Robert Bailie, Mit-
chell, visited recently with
relatives here.
