The end of summer is fast
approaching and with it comes
the end of the Summer Exp-
erience Program 26, familiar
to most people as S.W.E.E.P.
The SWEEP workers from
the Ausable-Bayfield Conserv-
ation Authority have once
again enjoyed a very suc-
cessful and productive sum-
mer. DUring the last few
months the crews have under-
taken a variety of projects
both for area municipalities
and the Conservation Author-
ity itself.
Quite a bit of cleanup
was carried out at the many
;conservation areas in the
s successful season
watershed including beach
cleanup at Port Blake, removal
of old machinery and debris
at the Clinton Conservation
Area, and general cleanups
at Port Franks and Rock Glen.
At -the Bannockburn Wild-
life Management Area a log
and stone deflector was const-
ructed to create a pool in order
to encourage fish to inhabit
the area. Corduroy bridges
were built across streams in
the area.
A nature trail was develop-
ed at the Parkhill Conservat-
ion Area, and trees were stak-
ed at Port Blake.

Many other jobs provided
the workers with a very
busy summer.
The technical portion of the
program also undertook a
number of projects which have
been extremely successful.
Pick Blyth girl
for Pork Hostess
An enthusiastic crowd of
1233 pork lovers partook of
the annual Pork Barbecue
and dance at the Seaforth
Arena. Hundreds more had
to be turned away because
the capacity of the barbecue
operated by Leo Kroonen
of Dublin was strained to the
limit.
After the delicious meal,
competing for the honour to
be Huron County Pork Host-
ess 1975.took place. Six lovely
girls vied for the title. After an
interview with the three
judges, who quizzed them on
their knowledge of pork cook-
ing and table display,. each
spoke for two minutes on the
merits of pork.
The judges were Mrs. Rob-
ert McKinley, Mrs. Murray
Gaunt and Mrs. Jack Riddell,
wives of Huron's three
representatives in Parlia-
ments, and they awarded the
Hostess crown to Miss Cathy
Madill of Blyth. Second place
was taken by Miss Judy
Miller of Dashwood. The
runner-ups were Miss Bar-
bara Miller, of Exeter, Miss
Glenna Ellis, of Clinton, Miss
Teresa Ondrejicka of Exeter
and Miss VanDoornik of Sea -
forth.
Frank Bainton, president
of Bainton 's Old Mill in Blyth,
presented the winner with a
beautiful suede pigskin jacket.
The other contestants receiv-
ed a cheque from the Huron
Pork Producers Association
who sponsored the event.
Miss Brenda Moore of
Goderich township, who was
1975 Hostess, crowned the
new hostess and spoke brief-
ly of her experiences during
the year, while she held the
title.
