RECEIVES DEGREE
Roderick Alexander (Rod)
Ferguson, B.F.A. son of Rev.
P.A. and Mrs. Ferguson of
Chesley, formerly of Hensall
received his Bachelor of The-
ology degree at McGill
University, Montreal, on
June 9. Rod was the recipient
of five scholarships, including
the Birks Gold Medal, for
highest standing in his year.
He was also the recipient of
the • Alumni Association .
Prize at Presbyterian College
for outstanding contribution
to the life of the College.
After a year of Professional
Training at Presbyterian
College he plans to • enter
the ministry of the Presbytery
in Canada. Rod spent his
early childhood in Hensall
when his father was minist-
er of Carmel Presbyterian
Church and his mother taught
school in the area.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoy
have returned from their
cottage at Pt. Clarke, where
they have vacationed for the
past six weeks. Mrs. Hoy
spent one week in July with
her sister Mrs. Ed Fink, who
was a patient in University
Hospital, London, and remain-
ed with Mrs. Fink while she
convalesced at her home
at R.R.1, Ripley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett
and Mr. and Mrs. Al Corbett
and Johnathon spent last week
vacationing at Silver Lake.
Mr. Jerry McClinchey ret-
urned from Winnipeg on Sat-
urday where he successfully
completed a seven weeks'
course at the University of
Manitoba.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Ross and
Mr. and Mrs. David Kyle
returned from a holiday spent
in England.
Mrs. Eva Parker of Mitchell
visited this week with Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Parker.
CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reid
of Hensall celebrated their
35th wedding anniversary
at the Pineridge Chalet,
Hensall on Saturday evening.
A family dinner was enjoyed.
by thirty-five relatives and
friends. The table was center-
ed with a three-tier anniver-
sary cake and decorated with
red roses. Mr. and Mrs. Reid
were married at Hensall
United Church Manse on
August 17 by Rev. Brooke,
John Reid of Hensall attend•
ed his brother as groomsman
and Mrs. Margaret Wayne.
attended the bride. Mrs,
Wayne lives in B.C. and was
unable to attend. Following
the dinner music was provided
by Joe Overholt and dancing
was enjoyed by a large crows
of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jones
and family of Moncton, Nev
-Brunswick
returned home
after holidaying with Mr
and Mrs. James Sangster ane
Bradley.
Mrs. Grace McEwen, who
recently underwent surgery
in Victoria Hospital, London,
was transferred to South Hur-
on Hospital, Exeter, this week
to convalesce.
Mr. and Mrs. Grant Love
of Cairo Michigan were rec-
ent visitors with the former's
sister Mrs. Grace McEwen
who is a patient in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter.

the setting on Sunday, August
17 for a bridal shower when
Mrs. Donna. Lavery and Mrs,
Dianne Warry, London
were hostesses in honor of
Miss Caroline McCann,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clement J. McCann, Dash-
wood. Two contests were
arranged by the hostesses and
one by Mrs. Bill Tinney and
Miss Judy Kirk. The bride
elect was the recipient of
many miscellaneous gifts
and gave her thanks to all.
Serving refreshments were
Miss Sherry Gilfillan, Miss
Roxanne Lavery, Miss Wendy
Gilfillan and Miss Debbie
Lang. Over forty guests
attended from Exeter, Lond-
on, Hensall, Seaforth, Kirk -
ton, Watford, Kippen, Dash-
wood and Ancaster.
Carmel Sunday School
Picnic Grades 3,4,5,6 and 7,
was held at the farm home of
Mr. and Mrs. Al Hoggarth
with teachers Mrs. Robert
Taylor and Mrs. Hoggarth
arranging the fun and games.
Winners of the day were;
three -;legged and wheel-
barrow race; Muray Taylor
and Paul Hoggarth. Jerry
Faber won the prize for
getting the ball in the circle.
Girl's , kick the slipper;
Darlene Faber. Boy's kick the
slipper; Greg Hoggarth.
Grand Champions for the
afternoon were; Jerry Faber,
Murray Taylor and Darlene
Varley. The games were fol-
lowed by hot dogs, cup
cakes and lemonade which all
enjoyed.
The 3's Couple Club will
meet at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Al Hoggarth on Sunday
September 14 at 2:30 p.m.
All couples and families of
the three congregations are
welcome.
Obituary
MRS. HARRIET HENRY
Mrs. Harriet Cameron
Henry, formerly of Hensall
passed away in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, on August
14, in her 93rd year. She
was the wife of the late Will-
iam Henry. A son , Dr.
Cameron Henry, Hensall
survices, also three grand-
children. A - daughter Mrs.
Margaret Hearne, predec-
eased her in 1973. Funeral
service was held from the
Bonthron Funeral Chapel on
Monday, August 18, at 2 p.m.
Service was conducted by
Rev. Don Beck. Interment in
Baird 's cemetery. Pallbearers
were Stan Love, Alex Mac -
Beath, Edison Forrest, Mac
Cameron, Glenn Lochart,
Elmer Dow, Jack Henderson.
