Parade highlight of day
Fun for everyone at Friedsburg
There was plenty to see,
plenty to do, plenty to eat
and plenty to drink, at Frieds-
burg Days, in Dashwood on
August 1 and 2.
The ladies tending the food
booths were busy. Patrons ate
their way through 800 pounds
of sausage, 1,000 pounds of
spareribs and 500 pounds of
sauerkraut.
The Bavarian garden was a
popular spot throughout the
celebrations, The shriners
added a little music to get
everyone into the spirit of
things.
There were 15 entries in
the talent show MC 'd by
Gary Parsons of CJBK radio,
London. Winners of the com-
edy award were "The Great-
est Goofs." Performers in
the skit were Danny, Joe and
Sue Ann Becker, Terry Bend-
er, Dean Boyle, Trevor Boyle,
and David Hayter.
First prize for the best
dancers went to Sandra and
Shelley Finlayson. Lori Noyes
was tops of the vocalists with
her rendition f 'Gary Indiana,'
The instrumental award wne
to Rick Lee for his accordion
solo.

to "The Girls from Parkhill,"

ne McLinchey, Marilyn
Hodgins and Karen Hodgins.
A highlight of the show
was the special guest appear-
ance of the Huron Country
players who performed
popular "bits" of plays on
stage at the playhouse this
summer.
And then came the event
everyone was waiting for, the
Miss + Friedsburg contest.
Wearing the crown for 1975
is pretty Janet Gielen. Runn-
ers-up were Kelly Zimmer-
man and Mary Ann Mathonia.
Janet was crowned by last
year's Miss Friedsburg,
Betty GUENTHER.
About 30 floats and 100
shriners made the great
callithumpian parade a long
and colorful success. The
theme was music through the
years.
Floats chosen most approp-
riate to the theme were;
Cliff Pepper for "Chicken on
the Coop," Rumbells Garage,
"Mother Goose," North
American Life Insurance Co.,
"School Days."

SAFE BICYCLING
Cyclists breaking traffic
laws or safety rules caused
one quarter of bicycle accid-
ents in Canada, warns Con-
sumers' Association of Can-
ada. Bicyclists should know
and obey traffic rules. When
cycling, keep to the right side
of the roadway and always
ride in single file. Stop and
look when leaving a lane or
driveway. Walk bikes across
busy intersections, watch
for doors that open suddenly
when riding past cars. Night
riders should always have
lights and reflectors on the
bike.
