August is quickly passing
and no doubt many of our
rreaders have had their vac-
ation and others may just be
enjoying theirs.
The Zurich Bean Festival
will be held on Saturday,
August 23, and the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Horne will be
having their usual booth.
When you are visiting the
Horne you will notice that
they have a quilt displayed
and tickets are available for
the draw at the tuck -shop
or from any of the Auxiliary
members. The draw will be
made at the Bean Festival.
We are grateful to Mrs.
Harold Fox and Mrs. Amelia
Prang for the beautiful flow-
ers they bring to the Home
which helps to make the surr-
oundings more cheerful.
We also wish to thank all who
have been supplying the
Home with the delicious fresh
vegetables.
The craft room workers
have been very ambitious
and have used up all the
nylons they cut up for stuff-
ing. We would be pleased to
receive nylons or panty hose
which could be used for this
purpose.
The chapel service two
weeks ago was in charge of
Rev. H. Moore of Grand
Bend and Greenway United
Churches. Miss Evelyn Curts
presided at the organ and
accompanied the Greenway
choir.
Last Sunday evening the
service was in charge of the
Zurich Mennonite Church.
Mrs. Anne Gingerich of Oreg-
on
USA was the guest speaker.
Special Music was provided
by a quartette consisting of
Mrs. Margaret Soper, Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley Gingerich
and Mr. Irvin Martin.

Most vegetables should be
blanched before freezing,
suggests Consumers' Assoc-
iation of Canada. Enzymes can
cause undesirable changes in
flavour, colour and texture
in frozen vegetables. To
blanch,- lower vegetables in
a wire basket or tied loosely
in cheese cloth into a large
kettle of briskly boiling water.
Cover kettle and start count-
ing blanching time. Keep heat
high. When water returns to
a vigorous boil, remove cover,
jiggle basket several times
or force bag down with a
wooden spoon to ensure un-
iform blanching. Most veget-
ables take from two to five
minutes. Chill vegetables im-
mediately in cold running
water or ice water then
pack in freezer containers.
