highlighted by a Shriner's
Band and a large contingent
of Shriners taking part.
A midway and other games
will be in operation through-
out the day, to provide plenty
of entertainment for the
children.
In the Arm Wrestling comp-
etition there will be four
categories for participants
to enter, up to 140 lbs; from
140 lbs. to 170 lbs; from
170 lbs to 200 lbs, and over
200 lbs. There will be a trophy
for each class, and then anoth-
er trophy, which will remain
in Dashwood, will be awarded
for the grand championship.
A novelty class this year
will be ladies arm wrestling,
and there will also be a trophy
for this category.
Thorndale tug of war
championship team will be
back again this year to defend
their title, and will be chall-
enged by teams from the Blue -
water, Mt. Carmel and Dash-
wood Industries.
Another highlight of the
big day will be a softball
game at night between Zurich
and Lieury, with Zurich hop-
ing to defend the champion-
ship they won last year.
For those who enjoy danc-
ing the Alpenaires will prov-
ide music in the licenceepic-
nic pavilion from four to seven
in the afternoon and nine to
eleven in the evening. Count-
ry Unlimited will be supplying
the music in the Community
Centre from two to five in
the afternoon and nine to one
in the evening.
Co-chairmen of this year's
event are George Tieman
and Hubert Miller, while
Mrs. Bob Hoffman is in
charge of the talent show and
he beauty queen contest.
Officials of the event hope
to earmark some of the pro-
ceeds to the Shriner's Hosp-
ital.
PERENNIAL BORDER
Don't neglect your peren-
nial border now if you want
it .to be beautiful next year,
says D.M. Sangster, Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food horticulturist.
Get out of that lawn chair,
put on your gardening gloves,
and cut off all faded perennial
blooms. This will not only
make your border look better,
but will prevent seed setting.
Remove all withered and
dried foliage, too.
July and August are ideal
months for dividing iris
plants, but you should wait
until October before dividing
your peonies.

MARINE ART • PRINTS • PAINTINGS
Come and view our fine selection of nautical
prints and paintings by such noted marine artists
as Homer and Sessions. Or maybe it's a
windjammer weather vane or a whaling harpoon
that would add that nautical touch to your rec
room or den. Whatever your notion see us at the •

Use seat
belts to
be safe
The correct use of seat
belts is the best way to avoid
serious injury or death after
a vehicle collides with another
obstacle and plunges into
water, the Ministry of Trans-
portation and Communicat-
ions has announced.
A study conducted in the
Netherlands by the Institute
for Road Safety Research
indicated that in more than
half of all traffic accidents
involving water, vehicles
involved had collided with
another obstacle before going
into the water.
Since occupants must be
able to react quickly, escape
depends on remaining consc-
ious and free from serioujs
injury. And properly fasten-
ed seat belts prevent further
injury during the severe
jolt that occurs even at low
speeds when a vehicle coll-
ides with water.
The doors of a submerged
vehicle, in nearly all cases
tested, were impossible to
open because of outside water
pressure. Thus windows offer
the best escape route, the
study concluded.
Ontario statistics in 1974
show that of 28 people drown-
ed following a collision,
none wore seat belts.
