Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Reid of
Sault Ste. Marie are spending
most of July with Mrs. George
Reid and visiting friends and
relatives in the area.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Whittaker
and family spent a week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
Burgoin, in Leamington. They
also spent a .day at Bob -Lo
Island Amusement Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Chessell,
Marion and Brian have returned
from two weeks of camping
and fishing in the Powassan
area. Miss Evelyn CHessell
of Mitchell is spending a few
days with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reid
and family, of Wallaceburg
are spending the summer at
their farm home.

The fourth meeting of the
Varna 4-H Garden Club was on
Wednesday, July 2, at Mrs.
Accept
tender
At a special meeting of the
council of the village of Zurich
in June, the tender of Smith
Construction of Seaforth was
accepted for the renovation of
the Community Centre.
The price of .the tender, which
was received on an invitational
basis, was $39,889. for all nec-
essary structural renovations
which are required to meet the
specifications of the inspecting
engineer.
Keith Stephenson' s. It was
opened as we all repeated the
4-H Pledge. The roll call was one
vegetable we have served since
the last meeting and . how we
served it.
Laura Taman, secretary,
read the minutes of the last
meeting. Mrs. Jim Keys discuss-
ed "Progress of the Garden,"
including insect problems. She
discussed choice of colours in
vegetables and flowers also.
Mrs. Keith Stephenson discus-
sed tossed salads.
We had a judging contest of
four salads. The girls were to
pick the best salad to the
worst. Our president, Kathy
Peck, closed the meeting.

MUSIC RESULTS
Music results from the Royal
Conservatory have been announ-
ced. Grade 5 piano, Honors,
Kim Gaiser, Barbara Rader,
Nancy Read, pass - Elaine Hend-
rick, Grade 3 piano honours,
Erryn Shepherd. All are pupils
of Miss Idella Gabel, A.R.C.T.
Laurie Heimrich, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Heimrich, Zur-
ich, and Mrs. Marjorie Hayter,
received marks from the Royal
Conservatory of Music in Toronto
for Grade II rudiments. Both
received marks in the 90's,
and are students of Mrs. Dorothy
Stade.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Turkheim
spent a week camping at Lost
Forest Park, Magnetewan, with
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Billington,
and family.
Lutheran
women
The monthly meeting of Luth-
eran Church Women was held at
the cottage of Mr. and Mrs.
Keith Westlake, with Mrs. Amel-
ia Prang, Mrs. Marge Schilbe
and Mrs. Irene Steinbach in
charge. Thirty-three members
and guests sat down to a delicious
pot -luck supper.
Mrs. Marg Westlake was the
winner of the lucky plate. Sports
were enjoyed by all following
supper. Mrs. Gertrude Fleisch-
auer, Mrs. Anne Flaxbard,
Mrs. Donna Klopp, Mrs. Dot
Hess and Mrs. Marg Willert
were the lucky winners.
For having the most pennies
in her purse made Mrs. Marg
Deichert a winner. The pennies
were then added to a special
collection for Cystic Fibrosis,
making a total donation of
$23.60.
After some confusion trying to
find the warmest spot the memb-
ers moved inside and a "Hymn
Sing"was conducted by Mrs.
Prang, with Mrs, Gertrude
Fleischauer at the organ.
Mrs. Edith Hohner, president,
conducted the business meeting.
Smiles
"You know," the dreamy -eyed
young man said, "since I -met
yau, I can't eat, I can't sleep, I
can't drink ...''
"Why not?"
"I'm broke."

A note was read from Mrs. Pat
Wheeler, volunteer co-ordinator
of Goderich Psychiatric Hospital,
for the donation sent to her.
She used the money to buy
treats for the patients at the
hospital.
The meeting adjourned with
the singing of the "Lord's
Prayer."
