Under the provisions of the
Municipal Act the council is
granted three options in the form-
ation of a council and the
number of votes allotted to each
municipality. Under the section
which the council is presently
constituted it accounts for a
reeve for up to 1000 electors;
over 1000 a reeve and a deputy
reeve; over 2000 the reeve has
an additinal vote; and over
3000 the reeve and deputy reeve
have a second vote.
Section 27 (a) of the act
allows a reeve for up to 2500
electors, over 2500 a reeve and
a deputy reeve; over 5000 the
reeve has a second vote and
over 7500 the reeve and deputy
reeve have a second vote. The
third alternative provides for a
reeve only. For up to 2000 elect-
ors the reeve would have two
votes, three votes for up to
3000 electors and four votes
if there are over 3000 electors.
The restructuring committee
will sit in on a session of
Essex County Council on July
'9 to examine their system that
has done away with commit-
tees. The 41 -member council
deals with all matters in council
and statutory committees meet
during the sessions.
If council were to adopt
either the optional sections,
Section A would provide a rep-
resentation of 29 members with
30 votes while Section B calls
for a representaion of 26
members with 56 votes. Council
currently has 45 members with
56 votes.

No complaints on meat
"Complaints about the quality
of meat being sold in Huron
County are no more common
than people complaining about
dog dirt on the lawn."
according to James McCaul,
Huron County's Chief Public
Health Inspector.
"We get calls all the time
from people complaining about
the colour of meat or that a
piece of meat was sliced too
thick, "he said, "but none of the
comp;laints have borne out on
misbranded meat."
An on-going Police Com-
mission inquiry in Montreal on
organized crime's involvement
in tainted meat, has discovered
that more than 16 million pounds
of federally -inspected horsemeat
was used in some beef prod-
ucts that were sold in Ont-
ario. However, Mr. McCaul
said the problem of tainted
meat in Huron is non-existent,
because the county is located so
far west of the Ontario -Quebec
border.
"There are a lot of people
in the slaughterhouse business
in this area, especially around
Kitchener,"he said. "We know
where their supplies come from,
so we know they're not dealing
in bad meat."
Mr. McCaul has three health
inspectors working under him
who are responsible for the
'regular inspection of the 300
meat handling establishments
in Huron County.. Provincial
guidelines set down the rules
of how often a place is insp-
ected, which varies from twice
a year to once a month.
