Seaforth plans centennial event
Seaforth is going to town for its
100th birthday, kicking up its
heels in a five-day centennial
celebration.
From June 27 to July 1 a

planned. In preparation, store
managers are lining up window
displays with a 100 -year old
theme.
But the events are more mod-
ern -a line-up of dances, parades,
competitions and banquets.
The kick-off is Friday night
with a musical variety night
(free) at the Seaforth District
High School and a dance to fol
low at the Seaforth Community
Centre.
Over the weekend, a car rally,
a children's penny carnival, a ball
game, a chicken barbecue and a
choir recital are planned.
Saturday will start at 7 a.m.
for those attending the pancake
breakfast on Main Street. The
later starters can catch the
parade, featuring 10 bands and
80 floats, and then on to the
centennial ball.
Monday will open with another
pancake breakfast and a series
of activities that will climax at
a tractor and truck pull Tuesday
afternoon. A dance at the com-
munity centre will wind up the
celebration.

Sunday afternoon the ' Zurich
Mets downed the league leading
Arva squad. The first Zurich
run was scored in the fifth
inning on a base hit by Ron
Corriveau.
He was knocked in on a base -
hit by Danny Overholt.
Veteran hurler Dick Bedard,
who held the Arva crew to eight
hits, drove in two runs which
proved to be the winners. Arva
scored one run in the eighth
and ninth innings.
Hits for Zurich came off the
bats of Paul Charrette, Richard
Schilbe, Dick Bedard with two,
Glen Overholt, Ron Corriveau
with two and Danny Overholt.
Winner of last week's glass bat
was Orville Schilbe.
The Mets next home game will
be played against Dashwood on
Sunday, July 13.

Kim McKinnon 's Bruins and
Ron Rader 's Flyers were victor-
ious in the first week of Roller
Hockey. In the first game the
Flyers edged Doug Turkheim's
Canadians 8 to 5 in a see -saw
battle to the finish.
Randy McKinnon 's Canucks
took the short end of the stick
getting defeated by the Bruins
10 to 5. We did not have the
scoring summary available.
Future games: June 26 at
7 p.m. Flyers vs Bruins; at 9 p.m.
Canadians vs Canucks.
