SERIOUSLY INJURED- A Zurich man, Harold Thiel', was seriously injured on Friday night when the
car he was driving left highway 84 just west of Hensall and rolled into the deep ditch on the south side
of the road. Other motorists who came along can be seen in this photo assisting police to free the body
from under the vehicle. Mr. Thiel remains in University Hospital, London.
TOP PRICES- The two top calves in the Hensall Spring Fair Calf Club brought in top prices for the
owners. Lyle Kinsman, right, received $1.30 per pound for his top calf from Parker and Parker, of Hen-
sall, while John Coleman, left, was paid 80(P per pound for his second place calf. Mr. and Mrs. Darling,

Ideal weather helps
Hensall Spring Fair
Ideal weather conditions help-
ed to make the 107th annual
Hensall Spring Fair one of the
best in the history of the org-
anization Tuesday night, as
about 1000 persons turned out to
watch the evening's proceed-
ings, The president of the fair,
Bill Coleman said he was except-
ionally well pleased with both
the attendance and the compet-
itions.
The fair officially got under way
with a big parade led by the
Zurich Centennial Band, and Jack
Riddell, Huron MPP opened the
activities.
One of the most popular events
judging and auctioning of one-
year -old heifer calves, drew 61
entrants.
Top calf at the show owned
by Lyle Kinsman was sold to
Parker and Parker Drainag., of
Hensall, for $1.30 per pound.
The second top calf, owned by
John Coleman, sold to Darling's
Food Market, Exeter, for 80¢ per
pound.
Best group of four fed steers
(open class) were shown by Bob
Gardiner of Staffa, while the best
group of four heifers (calf club)
were shown by Hugh Ryan, of
Parkhill.
Winner of the top weight
gain competition in the Here-
ford heifer class was Dwight
Kinsman of R.R.2, Kippen,
whose calf had gained 453
pounds since November. Run-
nerup was his brother John
whose calf gained -428 pounds.
Grand champion in the best
finished heifer class was Lyle
Kinsman of R.R.2, Kippen,
while reserve champion was
John Coleman, also of Kippen.
Winner of the junior show-
manship award for the calf club
members was Lyle Kinsman
while senior champion was Brian
Pym, of R.R.1, Centralia.

Top fiddlers compete
Some of Ontario' s finest fid-
dlers, and a "best ever" crowd
jammed into Hensall Arena
Friday and Saturday for the fifth
annual Ontario Fiddlers Contest.
The contest, sponsored by the
Hensall Kinsmen Club, attracted
about 3,000 persons, contest
chairmen Wayne Reid said.
Gord Elson of Ingersoll won
the prestigious open -class
fiddling competition out of a
field of eight fiddlers.
The winner for the last three
years, Chuck Joyce, of London,
was a special guest at the contest
this year. His three-year win
of the open -class competitin made
him ineligible this year. .
David Hammond, of Dunn-
ville came in second, with Don
Reed, 15, of Sudbury, third.
Other competition winners
were: Donna Vaghn, 11, of
Almonte, step dance, 12 years
and under;Robert Reed, 11,
of Sudbury, fiddling, 12 years
and under; Nancy Chessel, 13,
of Mitchell, step dancing, 13
to 25 years; Bill Smith, 15, of
Dunnville,fiddling, 20 years
and under.
Alice Urecko, of Toronto,
fiddling, Ladies open; Don Reed,
novelty fiddling; Leonard Clark,
of London, step dancing, 26
years and over; Robert Rennie,
76, of Shakespeare, fiddling,
70 years and over; Tom Mc-
Queston of King City, fiddling
55 years and over and Kenneth
Majaury of Kitchener, fiddling
35 to 55 years.
