News of
Huron Hope
(by Mrs. Eleanor Scott, Principal,'
Several successful outings have
taken place since the last news-
letter.
Mrs. MacGregor and Mrs.
Jaques took six students to Corb-
ett's sugar bush in McGillivray
Township. It has often been
difficult to schedule this tr ip
as the tapping of trees frequently
occurs while the students and
staff are on Winter Break. Fort-
unately this year the season was
extended and our students toured
the bush and even brought back
maple syrup candy with them.
Ten pupils accompanied by
Mr. Vince Elliott and four High
School Students and our teachers
drove to Pinery Park where they
hiked through the woods. Under
Mr. Elliott's guidance they
found leaves, acorns, fungus,
rocks and many souvenirs of the
woods. Many of these are now
displayed in the hallway outside
our classrooms.
A team of five bowlers (plus
a spare) participated in a bowling
tournament in Goderich on
May 9. Our congratulations
to the staff of the Queen Eliz-
abeth School for their fine org-
anization of this event. Teams
participated from a number of
counties including Bruce, Wat-
erloo and Perth , Not only were
they treated to donuts and a
drink in the morning, but a noon
meal was also provided for them
at the Goderich and District
Collegiate. Tom Masse was
Huron Hope's boys' bowler with
a game total of 312. All the
children received crests from the
town of Goderich.
A display of the crafts and art
work from the three schools for
the Retarded in Huron County
have been on exhibit in the
conference room at the Board of
Education office for the past few
weeks. We appreciated the opp-
ortunity to let others see the
work our children are doing.

"Make a joyful noise" is the
title of a special one-hour
program to be televised live on
the CBC network Sunday, June
8, from 4 to 5 p. M. EDT.
The program is being co-prod-
uced by the CBC and The United
Church of Canada to mark the
church's fiftieth anniversary
(June 10, 1925 was the actual
date when the union between
Methodists, Presbyterians, Cong-
regationalists and Local Unions
from western Canada was consum
mated at the Mutual Street
Arena in Toronto)
Described as "a concert of
music and laughter" the telecast
from The Qpera, National Arts
Centre in Ottawa, will feature
an all -Canadian cast hosted by
Don Harron, who also wrote the
script. Tommy Ambrose and
Catherine McKinnon will be the
featured soloists supported by
the Celebration Choir and Doug
Riley and the Band. Theatre
Five of Kingston will offer dram-
atic vignettes.
The program is being directed
by Bill Davis who has just won
his second Emmy Award as a
director of television variety
specials. Tim Bentley is produc-
er for the CBC, Rev. Des McCal-
mont executive producer for the
United Church and Sandy Webst-
er producer. Bill Zaharuk was the
designer.
The Governor-General and

as will the Moderator of the

Right Reverend Wilbur K. How-
ard.
In.the pre -telecast period, a
commemorative stamp album
will be presented to the Moderat-
or by the Honourable Bryce S.
Mackasey, Postmaster -General.
The stamps in the album are of
the Rev. Dwight S. Chown, a
chief architect of union in 1925.
The French fact in the United
Church is being accented by the
use of French hymns in the warm-
up, a French hymn being sung
by Catherine McI<innon, and
the Moderator being introduced
by the Rev. Guy Deschamps,
pastor of L'Eglise Saint -Marc of
Ottawa.
Rev. Burn Purdon, bilingual
song leader is being flown to
Ottawa by private plane from a
ten -congregation celebration at
Owl's Head Mountain S1<i Lodge,
near Mansonville, Que. The
plane is being provided by Alb-
ert Korman, a Mansonville bus-
iness man.
